Job summaryThis is an exciting opportunity to join the Specialist Psychological Therapies Service for Wigan and Leigh. The service provides Learning Disability Psychology diagnostic and therapy services and Autism diagnostic assessments and pre and post diagnostic. This includes individual and group sessions. The team is psychology led and consists of Clinical psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, Advanced Practitioners, a Support worker and a Clinical Team Manager. The team also works closely with Experts by Experience to develop and deliver training.
Main duties of the jobWe are looking for an Assistant Psychologist to join our team. The role of the Assistant Psychologist is to support members of the Specialist Psychological Therapy Service working across the Learning Disability Psychology and Adult Autism Assessment Service. The focus of this role within the Autism Service will be in supporting the autism diagnostic assessments and producing detailed clinical reports. The role may also involve supporting the monthly community drop-in sessions, the pre-assessment support resources, the post diagnostic peer led group intervention and individual peer led post diagnostic support sessions. The post holder will also have the opportunity to conduct diagnostic assessments within the Learning Disability service and to deliver therapy sessions. The role may also have the opportunity to work closely with qualified Clinical Psychology colleagues on development and delivery of training, research and audit projects, and undertake routine administrative tasks to support the clinical work. They will be an active member of the service and will join an established team of Clinical Psychologists, Advanced Practitioners, CBT Therapist, Assistant Psychologists and Peer Mentors.

QualificationsEssential- An honours degree in that satisfies the British Psychological Society criteria for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership
Desirable- As in essential criteria, also the following are desirable: Post graduate training in areas relevant to psychological practice, mental health, learning disability, neurodiversity and/or research design and analysis
ExperienceEssential- The post holder should have experience of: Work experience in a health or care setting supporting autistic people and/or people with learning disabilities and/or mental health difficulties Research methodology, data collection, analysis and report writing
Desirable- As in essential criteria, also the following are desirable: Previous experience working therapeutically with autistic service users and their families Experience of diagnostic / neuropsychological assessment Experience designing and conducting large scale research, audit or service evaluations
KnowledgeEssential- The post holder should have: Knowledge of a broad range of psychological theories and the application of these with Learning Disabilities and Autism
Desirable- As in essential criteria, also the following are desirable: Knowledge of psychological therapies and their application Knowledge of NICE guidelines relevant to the role Knowledge of policies and legislation relevant to the role
SkillsEssential- The post holder should have: Excellent interpersonal skills High level communication skills - verbal and written - with professionals, service users and their families Good time management skills
Desirable- As in essential criteria, also the following are desirable: Proficient IT skills Ability to communicate sensitive information to children, young people and families
