Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a staff nurse Band 6 RGN to join our highly skilled primary care team at HMP Manchester.

We are looking for a highly motivated and compassionate nurse who has an interest in providing equitable care to individuals detained in prison.

You will contribute to evidence based patient care and be an integral part of the MDT and wider prison multi agency team. You will have strong communication skills and the ability to make structured professional decisions.

The role requires strong emotional resilience, self awareness and continuous reflective practice. You will be supported by your peers and managers.

You must have been a UK resident for 3 years to be eligible to apply for this post. due to prison vetting requirements.

The role is subject to prison vetting (Counter Terrorism Clearance) which is a condition of employment and must be kept up to date for the duration of your employment.

**A valid in date registration PIN is required for this role.**

Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will assist in the overall delivery of care to patients within the Primary Care department of HMP Manchester. You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. The post holder will at all times comply with the NMC Code of Conduct, relevant legislation policies and procedures.

Healthcare services operate 7 days a week, and the successful applicants would need to be flexible in their approach to meeting the demands of the service.

Person Specification
Education/ Qualification
Essential
  • Professional registration as an RGN

Desirable
  • Leadership or management in Health Care qualification
  • Cleared to Counter Terrorist National Security Vetting level.

Experience
Essential
  • Experience in, or relevant knowledge of, delivering the National Screening Programmes
  • post qualification experience.

Desirable
  • Experience of working as a manager or team leader, including management practice and service development.
  • Experience of working within a secure environment
  • Delivering training to a broad range of audiences.
  • Service user and carer involvement in service development.
  • Experience in using the "green book" to guide

Knowledge and Skills
Essential
  • Excellent clinical assessment skills, including assessment and management of risk; in relation to Older People and Adults of Working Age
  • In depth knowledge of the National Screening programmes.
  • Ability to provide leadership and management skills to an integrated multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and monitor own and others work load.
  • Supervisory skills including staff appraisal and supervision.
  • Ability to contribute to staff training and development.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with service users, carers, other agencies and professionals.
  • Ability to involve service users and carers in service delivery, service evaluation and service development
  • Ability to manage change and contribute to the development of services.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of service policies and strategies.
  • Ability to ensure effective use of information technology.
  • Prepared to work flexibility to meet the needs of the service.
  • At times it may be required for the postholder to undertake clinical duties to support the team's operation.
  • Able to travel to other prisons if required.
