Job summary
We are recruiting for a Peer Support Coordinator to join our team on the Isle of Wight. This is a part time role for 30 hrs per week.

The Peer Support Coordinator will use their own personal experiences of managing mental health and recovery, to provide hope, empathy and a different practical perspective through support, dialogue and acting as a role model.

The post holder will provide day-to-day coordination, supervision and support to the Acute Peer Support Team, ensuring consistent, recovery-focused peer support is delivered across all localities.

At present, the Trust is unable to offer Skilled Worker visa sponsorship for this post. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application.

Main duties of the job

• Line manage, supervise and support the Acute Peer Support Team, promoting wellbeing, boundaries and consistent practice.
• Act as a point of contact for Peer Support Workers, supporting workload balance, problem-solving and escalation of concerns to the designated lead.
• Support induction, mentoring and ongoing development of Peer Support Workers in line with Trust expectations and scope of role.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners including housing, employment, education, primary care and voluntary sector organisations.
• Promote awareness of the Peer Support Service within teams and partner organisations.
• Manage referrals to the peer support service and proactively identify individuals who may benefit from peer support.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, or agreed equivalent experience
• Knowledge of working with people
• Excellent understanding of Peer Support
• Commitment to undertaking continual personal development

Desirable

• Health related qualification.
• Recovery college qualification
• Completed accredited Peer Support Worker training -- or currently working towards it.
• Mental Health First Aid Training (or similar).

Experience
Essential

• Lived experience of managing mental ill health and recovery, and accessing secondary mental health services.
• Ability to support others in a recovery orientated way.
• Good motivational techniques and abilities.
• Evidence of working within a team environment and ability to develop and maintain constructive working relationships with colleagues.
• Understanding of how lived experience of mental health conditions can be used to support others.
• Understanding of recovery focussed principles and how they can influence support for service users.
• Understands the impact of stigma and discrimination.
• Good knowledge of mental health problems
• Basic working knowledge of the NHS & mental health service provision
• Clear effective planning and decision-making skills.
