Job summaryTo work as a Senior Occupational Therapist within the Stroke Service, providing advanced patient assessment and therapeutic intervention for those patients admitted to the Service.
This post is vital to facilitate as far as possible each client's return to maximum function and independence through a range of therapeutic interventions.
This intervention has a significant impact on the wider economy in; reducing length of stay in hospital, reducing admissions and re-admissions, reducing residential placements through both social care and continuing health care, reducing domiciliary care packages as well as improving health outcomes.
To continually evaluate service provision, propose and carry out developments that will improve service delivery and patient care.
To act as a resource and support to a wide range of other disciplines, agencies, and carers by providing knowledge and skills, including contribution to education and research programmes as required.
Main duties of the jobTo undertake a supporting role, in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Occupational Therapy Service provided to clients within the service on a day-to-day basis.
To take an active role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the Stroke service who may have a complex presentation and determine if/what Occupational Therapy treatment is indicated. To work as an autonomous practitioner ensuring that records are maintained and up to date in line with policy and governing body HCPC.
To supervise, teach and appraise more junior Occupational Therapists, Assistants, Occupational Therapy students and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, as determined by the team leader and professional lead.
To keep up to date with developments in stroke rehabilitation, undertaking audit to evaluate practice, and participating in research as appropriate.
To supervise, initiate and participate in evidence-based projects and assist in implementing changes within designated team/area.
To represent Occupational Therapy at MDT meetings.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Relevant post graduate training for area of work
- State registration with HCPC
- Significant experience of working in a stroke speciality.
- Demonstrate broad knowledge and application of current best practice in Occupational Therapy
- Demonstrate application of the Occupational Therapy process with defined client groups
- Demonstrate applied knowledge of treatment techniques relevant to improve and maintain Occupational Performance and Processing for the defined client group.
- Demonstrate applied knowledge of effective planning and coordination of treatment packages
- Demonstrate understanding of team dynamics
- Demonstrate ability to effectively use computer software to support Occupational Therapy interventions
- Demonstrate applied knowledge of current legislation
- Documented evidence of Continuing professional development
- Demonstrate applied knowledge of Health, safety and risk awareness
- Demonstrate current clean UK driving licence, access to a car with business insurance.
