Job summary
This is a 12 months fixed term contract to work within the Islington MDT Stroke and Neuro Team comprising of PT, PT, SLT, CHP.

To provide an assessment, advisory and treatment service to community clients with neurological conditions referred or admitted to the Islington Locality Therapies Service, working flexibly with all other members of the team to provide an integrated rehabilitation service in accordance with the philosophy and operational policies of the service.

Clients may be seen in a variety of settings, including inpatient facilities, their own homes, residential homes, places of work and leisure facilities. The caseload is varied and comprises people who have mobility, cognitive and neurological problems.

Job responsibilities
  • To manage a caseload of clients with simple to complex needs with supervision and guidance as necessary from senior staff. To successfully monitor, evaluate and review occupational therapy treatment/interventions within a multi-disciplinary framework and to modify as necessary taking a key worker role as indicated.
  • Develop and conduct Occupational Therapy intervention with clients assessing their occupational needs and addressing quality of life, and physical, cognitive, affective, social, and environmental issues utilising appropriate individual or group treatment methods.
  • To use developed physical skills in client interventions, such as upper limb rehabilitation, activities of daily living, splint fabrication/orthoses (hand splints).
  • To devise and manage a treatment plan individual to a clients presenting condition through, for example, the use of functional rehabilitation, adaptation, equipment provision, education, and health promotion.
  • To supervise students and colleagues as needed.

Education and Qualification
Essential
  • degree in OT or equivalent
  • HCPC registration
  • post grad courses - normal movement, counselling, neurology, COOP, Postural management

Skills and Abilities
Essential
  • demonstrates active involvement in MDT work
  • demonstrates strong clinical reason skills with assessment and treatment planning
  • demostrates use of safe manual handling practices
  • Demonstrates ability to work as a long worker
  • demonstrates ability to self motive and take the initiative
  • demonstrates good time management and organisational skills
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritise and problem solve
  • Demonstrates a client centred approach to care

knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Demonstrates strong concepts of OT role within community neuro rehab
  • shows knowledge of up to date evidence based practice including a variety of neuro assessment and treatment approaches
  • previous experience in the NHS
  • previous experience in stroke and neuro community rehabilitation
  • Experience working in the NHS
