Healthcare Assistant Full-Time or Part-Time

Harlequin Surgery is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly and supportive team.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking either full-time or part-time employment. Previous experience working in primary care or a community healthcare setting is preferred.

Main duties of the job
To assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care, as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs. Duties to include, but not limited to;

• New patient medicals
• Annual reviews
• Urinalysis
• ECGs
• 24 hr BP
• Venepuncture
• Blood pressure measurements
• Routine immunisations, B12, Influenza, Pneumo, Shingles
• Diabetic Foot checks
• Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
• Requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
• Woundcare
• Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
• Smoking Cessation
• Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
• Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
• Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
• Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
• Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
• Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
• Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
• Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
• Assist in minor surgery and implant and coil insertion
• Any other duties within skill set that may come about

Job responsibilities
Working under the direct supervision of the practice nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

• Previous experience in primary or community care
• Care certificate
• Phlebotomy

Desirable

• Experience with SystmOne an advantage
