Main duties of the job
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our dedicated pharmacy team at HMP Norwich. The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver an efficient, safe and comprehensive pharmaceutical service within the prison pharmacy departments. As a Pharmacy Technician, your days will be rewarding and varied, you will work on a wing where you will be responsible for the administration of medication to patients and the associated medication management activities, including audits and stock checks under the direction of the Clinical Lead and the Pharmacist Manager. You will be expected to work autonomously within guidelines, standard operating procedures and Medicine Policy. Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the administration of medication to patients and the associated medication management activities, including audits and stock checks under the direction of the Clinical Lead and the Pharmacist Manager.
  • Work autonomously within guidelines, standard operating procedures and Medicine Policy
  • Work as an active member of the Pharmaceutical team to assist in ensuring the delivery of a legal, safe, high quality specialist prison pharmaceutical service which reflects National and local policy and priorities, taking into account the high level of security that must be maintained at all times
  • Undertake provision of a medicines administration service to the patients
  • Provide, in conjunction with the appropriate Clinical practitioners, a wing technician medicine management service on allocated wings
  • Support implementation of medicine management strategy and associated services and projects across the prison
  • Assist in the delivery of cost-effective prescribing, the medicines optimisation strategy and management of medication budget
  • Promote safe pharmacy practice within the prison including providing advice and training to patients and staff

Ideal Candidate
  • BTEC or NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council - GPhC
  • Knowledge of legislation and good practice in relation to medicines
  • Experience of stock control
  • Ability to monitor and assist in management of medication budget
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate initiative
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with clinicians, healthcare professionals and patients
  • Ability to manage own workload and meet objectives and targets
  • Confident using IT systems & be able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to perform in a challenging environment
  • Good attendance record and willingness to participate in weekend/bank holiday rota
