Job Summary
We are currently seeking an experienced Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or CBT Therapist, at Band 7 to work via a Bank Contract, for our Adult Mental Health PATH West Team, based in St Albans. You will be joining our Temporary Staffing Team within HPFT - Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

The Prevention, Assessment and Treatment in Hertfordshire (PATH) Service has been developed to provide dedicated biopsychosocial care to clients presenting with early intervention needs in psychosis. The post holder will take a central role in providing modern based psychological assessments, formulations and interventions for this group of clients. The role will support governance of all psychological and psychologically informed interventions within the service, with support from the Senior and Lead Psychologists. On-going service development will also be a part of the role.

HPFT provides services for service users with mental health, learning disability and children's and adolescent mental health problems. Applicants should have some experience of working in a healthcare setting.

All applicants need to hold a valid Professional Registration and can evidence this. The team are particularly keen to receive applications from those with a post-graduate certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp).

Main duties of the job
  • The post-holder will provide National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) based psychological assessment and treatment including a range of group and individual psychological interventions
  • The post-holder will provide specialist support, guidance and consultation on clients' psychological care to other multi-disciplinary professionals
  • The post-holder will work closely with both psychology and other psychological therapy colleagues
  • The post-holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures
  • The post-holder will utilise research skills for audit, teaching, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service
  • The post holder will be expected to drive their own vehicle regularly between bases and must cope with the physical demands of frequent travel across the Trust and further afield as required.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care
  • Formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings
  • Be responsible for implementing a range of NICE-based specialised psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups. These interventions can be employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options on the FEP pathway taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group

Person Specification
Qualifications/Education/Training
Essential
  • Doctoral/Masters level training in clinical/counselling psychology, including specific models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS and current registration with HCPC
  • A registered qualification (e.g. in nursing, social work, occupational therapy) and further postgraduate qualification training in evidence based psychological therapies, including CBT, and significant experience working as a psychological therapy practitioner, with BABCP registration and eligibility for BABCP accreditation
Previous Experience
Essential
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings, including at least six months clinical experience working in adult mental health
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life span's presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working and inter-agency collaboration
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or offering supervision
