This post is part of our service to Autistic and complex needs children.
The current allocation for this specialist speech and language therapist post is:
- The Garden Special School
- Autism Specialist Support
- Autism Diagnostics (under 5s service)
As a specialist speech and language therapist, in the future you may work across sessions in:
- Special Schools
- Additionally Resourced Provisions
- Autism and Complex Specialist Support
- Autism diagnostics - over 5s
- As well as some mainstream schools (most often with autistic and complex children).
It is an excellent chance to be part of an exciting and growing SaLT network within this clinical area raising awareness of SLCN and providing holistic, relevant and functional support to children, and the professionals around them. Preferences will be discussed at interview, and the exact combination of the post will be dependent on interest, experience and service need.
Main duties of the jobThe sessions will as part of the Autism service. In special schools this will be with primary and / or secondary/post-16 age students. Some time will be based within settings, as the link SaLT; and some will be supporting the wider team to develop their Autism practice as well as working in the Autism diagnostics team.
Candidates' preferences will be taken into account where possible. The service employs over 100 staff and so opportunities arise frequently and staff are deployed flexibly to meet changing need.

Person SpecificationEducation / QualificationsEssential- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent (Post-Graduate Diploma or MSc in Speech and Language therapy leading to registration with HCPC)

Desirable- Clinical supervisors course for staff and students

ExperienceEssential- Post-graduate experience in relevant specialist area
