Pharmacy Technical Services is a dynamic and evolving area of practice, playing a critical role in ensuring the safe preparation and supply of complex medicines to patients. Our Aseptic Services team prepares and supplies systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) to patients across all four hospital sites within the Health Board, and delivers an expanding clinical trials service providing investigational medicinal products to each site. We are currently progressing the development of a new Pharmacy Aseptic Unit, due to become operational later this year, which will further enhance our capacity and capability. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled pharmacist to join our team and contribute to this exciting period of growth and transformation.
This post is focused on supporting the safe and effective delivery of SACT, clinical trials and any other medicines through Pharmacy Technical Services. The post holder will be an Authorised Pharmacist for the unit and will verify prescriptions for SACT, ensuring compliance with authorised protocols, and reviewing pathology results and other relevant clinical parameters. The successful candidate will need to be organised, be able to align their values with those of the organisation and have a positive attitude.
Main Duties of the Job- Act as an Authorised Pharmacist for the aseptic unit, supervising aseptic preparation of ready to administer injectable medicines such as Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) and deputising for the Accountable Pharmacist.
- Ensure that all activities within the service are carried out by trained personnel in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP) requirements, Health and Safety at Work, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), The Human Medicines Regulations and any other relevant statutory requirements, to deliver a timely, high quality and patient-focused service across the Health Board.
- Clinically screen and review prescriptions for SACT, clinical trials, and any others as required.
- Undertake the aseptics services verification to ensure the prescription has been clinically verified, that the prescribed constituents are compatible and the formulation is stable and that the product is in the correct presentation for the intended route of administration.
- Provide expert pharmaceutical advice to senior managers, clinicians and nursing staff.
- Ensure that Quality Assurance standards are maintained in accordance with national, regional and local requirements.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge- Essential: Masters Degree in Pharmacy
- Essential: Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Essential: Postgraduate Diploma in area of practice or equivalent experience
- Essential: Demonstrate Continuing Professional Development
- Desirable: University or professional body accredited ICH GCP course
- Desirable: Qualification in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance
- Desirable: Independent Prescriber
Experience- Essential: Post qualification experience of working in a Hospital Pharmacy Department
- Essential: Relevant GMP experience providing NHS Aseptic services or within an MHRA licensed unit
- Desirable: Experience of clinical audit or research
Other- Essential: Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
- Desirable: Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
