Isle of Wight Council Public Health Team

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our ambitious and expanding Public Health team as a fixed term (12 months) Public Health Practitioner.

Following the re-establishment of our independent Isle of Wight Public Health Team, we are continuing to build a dynamic, forward-thinking team focused on delivering meaningful improvements in health and wellbeing for our Island community. This is an exciting time to join us, as we continue to develop innovative work programmes and focus on the health of our Island residents.

The Isle of Wight presents a unique public health opportunity. It has a distinct population, geography and set of challenges and strengths. This allows us to develop tailored, place-based approaches that have real impact, particularly in addressing inequalities, supporting communities and improving outcomes across the life course.

We are a supportive, friendly and evolving team, with a strong commitment to learning, professional development and helping our staff grow. The Island and our staff benefit from strong multi-agency partnerships and networks, which you will be part of. You will be joining at a time where there is ample opportunity to shape how we work, influence priorities and develop your career within public health.

Main duties of the job
Join our Team as a Public Health Practitioner

This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity. The role will focus on delivering priority public health programmes, with approximately 50% of time dedicated to gambling harms prevention (in line with national funding requirements) and 50% focused on domestic abuse.

If you want to support the development, implementation, commissioning and delivery of Public Health programmes across the Island then this is the job for you.

About the role

You will play an important part in delivering public health strategic priorities and translating our priorities into practical action, working collaboratively with partners to improve outcomes and reduce inequalities.

You will join the team to focus on gambling harms prevention and domestic abuse. Working with experienced senior practitioners, project managers and other public health colleagues you will help develop our evidence base and approaches. Your work will also involve collaboration with other partners and supporting those with lived and living experience to influence strategies, policies and services here on the Island.

About us
How we will support you

We will help you further develop your public health knowledge and skills especially in the focus areas of gambling harms and domestic abuse. If you are not already a registered UK Public Health Practitioner, we will support you to work towards this.

There will be opportunities to support commissioning activities and the development of services to improve quality and impact.

What were looking for

We are looking for a motivated and proactive person with a passion for positive health and wellbeing outcomes for our Islanders, families and communities.

If you are a keen team player with excellent communication skills and an understanding of public health principles, approaches and putting evidence into practice, we would love to hear from you!
