Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Public Health Practitioner (Band 6) to join our Healthy Schools Team in the Public Health directorate within Swansea Bay university Health Board. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to protecting and improving the health and wellbeing of children, young people, schools and wider communities, with a particular focus on addressing health inequity.

The post holder will provide public health expertise to a range of audiences and work collaboratively with schools, pre-schools, partner organisations and local communities to support the delivery of our population health priorities.

Main duties of the job
  • Contribute to the planning, development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of public health initiatives that impact on long term health and well-being and reduce health inequalities
  • Support schools and pre-schools, to identify their health needs, formulate plans to address their needs, take action to evaluate their impact.
  • Implementation and evaluation of local campaigns to meet local needs.
  • Support the prevention/promotion agenda in being at the forefront of key strategies and programmes that impact on the health and well-being of the population.
  • Plan, develop and implementation of evidence based public health interventions in conjunction with partners and stakeholders.
  • Manage own workload, ensuring key deadlines for delivery are met and priorities are adjusted as needed to meet demands on the team.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
  • Post graduate qualification or equivalent demonstrable knowledge in Public Health.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the determinants of health and health inequalities
Desirable
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
Strategic Service Development
Essential
  • Improvement, Monitoring, Policy/Service Development
Desirable
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to teams across the organisation to ensure they embed population health into any new or pre-existing policies and strategies.
