The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Trust's established Resuscitation Service as a Resuscitation Officer. Reporting to the Senior Resuscitation Officer, the post holder will deliver adult and paediatric resuscitation training to all grades and disciplines of staff plus training in recognition and management of the deteriorating patient. The post will also involve undertaking defined projects related to the service (i.e. audits), attending resuscitation calls on the St Mary's site and deputising for the Senior Resuscitation Officer as required. Successful applicants will be clinically credible, undertaking recent regular clinical work in an acute/critical care setting. The Senior Resuscitation Officer welcomes potential applicants for an informal chat as the role is very varied with a mix of practical, clinical and office administrative duties.

Main duties of the job

• Deliver resuscitation training (adult, paediatric & newborn) to all grades/disciplines of staff (basic and advanced life support as required), trauma resuscitation and the assessment and care of the critically ill patient.
• Support monitoring of standards and protocols, including the audit and evaluation of the resuscitation procedure.
• Support the collection, appraisal and recording of accurate information for the purposes of national and local audits/research related to resuscitation and resuscitation practice.
• Ensure that resuscitation is underpinned by evidence based practice where applicable and encourages the application of research into daily practice.
• To attend clinical resuscitation calls whenever possible, to provide team leadership (as necessary), monitor performance, support, advise and to provide debriefing/clinical supervision as needed.
• Investigate in-patient cardiac arrests as per the resuscitation policy and initiate/ engage with any subsequent actions as a result of the investigation
• Support the Trust's focus on recognition of the deteriorating patient through education, audit, investigative processes and simulation.
• In conjunction with Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust Simulation Team and the IOW Trust resuscitation team, develop (and sometimes lead on) a Trust simulation strategy in line with national recommendations.
