Clinical Specialist - Speech & Language Therapist
The closing date is 31 August 2026

Job summary
The Community Brain Injury Team (CBIT) is a supportive, motivated and experienced team of clinicians including, in addition to this speech and language therapy post, a physiotherapist, occupational therapist (also team lead), psychologist and rehabilitation worker. We work collaboratively towards person centred goals. We are supported by an admin hub.

CBIT is a specialist service providing neuro rehabilitation to adults affected by brain injury. CBIT is provided by the NHS Kent and Medway Mental Health Trust.

The Community Brain Injury Team's mission statement is to provide high quality neuro rehabilitation to adults affected by brain injury living in the community. Our service addresses the physical, psychological and social consequences of brain injury. Working with the client, family and carers we offer personalised care plans and collaborative goal setting to facilitate enablement and adjustment to promote effective self-management.

The speech and language therapy postholder will work embedded within the well-regarded Community Brain Injury Team to provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment and intervention to optimise the communication of the service users.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide expert speech and language therapy assessment and rehabilitation to service users of the Community Brain Injury Team (CBIT)
  • To provide a consistently high standard of goal-orientated treatment programmes for patients with complex neuro-rehabilitation needs.
  • To ensure excellent communication and guidance to the clinical team, patients, carers and families on the communication needs of the person to optimise their recovery and function.

About us
We are Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust. We care for the mental health and wellbeing of people across Kent and Medway and are rated 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Our teams support children, young people and adults with a wide range of mental health needs. We also provide specialist services, including all-age eating disorder services and neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people, such as autism and ADHD.

Because we work across the whole county and across hospital and community settings, we can make care more joined up and easier to access for the people we serve.

The Community Brain Injury Team clinicians recommend CBIT as a place to work (or be treated). They report feeling mutually heard, supported and valued by team colleagues. They are proud of their outcomes and achievements in patient lives. Within the team they feel motivated and have shared values, aspirations and goals for patient outcomes. They feel engaged and empowered in decisions affecting their work within the team.

Come and join this well-regarded team and make a difference in someone's life that has been affected by brain injury.

We welcome applications or enquiries.
