Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Band 5 Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy bank team. This is an exciting opportunity to work across both ward-based clinical services and the pharmacy dispensary, providing a varied role that will allow you to use and develop a broad range of pharmacy skills.

You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team on the wards, supporting the safe and effective use of medicines, while also contributing to the provision of a high-quality and efficient dispensing service.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Pharmacy Technician with excellent communication and organisational skills, a commitment to patient-centred care, and the ability to work confidently both independently and as part of a wider pharmacy and multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
This role offers the opportunity to work across a varied pharmacy service, developing and maintaining skills in both clinical medicines management and dispensary practice. Bank working provides flexibility while allowing you to make a valuable contribution to patient care and the wider pharmacy team.

Job responsibilities
  • Undertake medicines reconciliation and medicines management activities on designated wards.
  • Review patients' own medicines and assess their suitability for use during admission.
  • Contribute to discharge planning and the timely supply of discharge medicines.
  • Accurately dispense prescriptions and prepare medicines for supply in accordance with legal requirements, departmental procedures and professional standards.
  • Undertake final accuracy checking where appropriately qualified and authorised.
  • Assist with controlled drug procedures and other medicines governance processes.

Qualifications
Essential
  • BTEC in Pharmaceutical science and NVQ 3
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Able to offer advice on the safe storage and administration of drugs
  • Sound understanding of the Pharmacy technical processes
  • Sound understanding of the Pharmacy clinical skills needed in todays NHS
  • Demonstrate their ability to communicate sensitive information to others including patients
  • Proven ability to influence others
  • To have a working knowledge of current local and national issues for the NHS e.g. Carter review and how these affect KGH
  • Proven ability to manage their own time and that of others
  • Proven ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Able to offer advice on the safe storage and administration of drugs

Skills

  • Able to deal with regular interruptions and demands
