Job summary
We are pleased to offer this new part time role as part of expansion of the Spasticity services at Kings College Hospital and Hub and Spoke model for spasticity management across SEL. This role will be split between the Spasticity service and Acute Neuro Rehabilitation service at PRUH and ORP hospitals, and will work alongside a Fulltime Team lead in Acute Neuro rehabilitation and Spasticity.

Main duties of the job
To ensure a high quality, effective and efficient Physiotherapy service within acute inpatient rehabilitation within allocated resources.

To use highly specialist physiotherapy knowledge and skills as an autonomous practitioner, and as part of the multidisciplinary spasticity service.

To support the spasticity clinics as part of the MDT service, and undertake full assessments and treatment plans, including physical management strategies, botulinum toxin, patient/carer education and liaison with community partners.

To support Ward teams with early identification and problem solving around barriers to rehab and discharge, and support ward with complex referrals and signposting.

To foster links with local rehabilitation services, and attend Multidisciplinary meetings to support patient pathways where appropriate eg (SCI round, Neuro Rehab round, FND Complex MDM)

To support physiotherapy teams in neuro-physiotherapy management and to supervise, teach and develop staff and students to meet individual and service needs.

To lead and manage ANR and Spasticity physiotherapy team and deputise for the Clinical Leads when necessary.

This post requires a flexible approach to working and may require the post holder to work as part of a rota'd seven day working pattern as necessary. Staff may be required to work across multiple sites dependent upon the needs of the service. This includes both static and rotational posts.

Job responsibilities
To ensure a high quality, effective and efficient Physiotherapy service within acute inpatient rehabilitation within allocated resources.

To receive referrals, undertake full assessment and independently plan individual, specialised, evidence-based, treatment programmes for patients appropriately depending on the diagnosis, using clinical reasoning and a variety of highly specialist skills such as neuro-handling skills, spasticity management, splinting, posture and seating management.

To support the spasticity clinics as part of the MDT service, and undertake full assessments and treatment plans, including physical management strategies, botulinum toxin, patient/carer education and liaison with community partners.

Person Specification
Essential

• HCPC registration
• Degree or other recognized qualification in physiotherapy
• Working at Masters level, as demonstrated by ongoing CPD including at M level, evidence-based project work, external post graduate lecturing including on M level courses
• Undertaken post-graduate training / qualification in the management of neurological disorders
• Certificate in Injection therapy for Botulinum Toxin, or willingness to complete
• Specialist knowledge and understanding in a broad range of neurological conditions and problems
• Good assessment skills and experience of a wide variety of neurological treatment techniques including specialist handling, splinting, FES, Vestibular rehabilitation.
• Specialist experience in neurology including acute and rehab
• Wide ranging post registration experience
• Has understanding of clinical governance and its implications for Physiotherapy
• Experience of teaching and presenting to other staff
• Experience of supervising and developing staff and students
• Good assessment skills showing highly specialist clinical reasoning
• Able to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary team and understand roles of MDT and own role within MDT
• Excellent communication skills including the ability to process and share complex information
• Able to work at moderate to high levels of physical activity involving the delivery of manual therapy, therapeutic handling and the demonstration of exercise throughout the working day
• Able to work with a busy working environment, able to cope with periods of interruption during the working day and able to support others to do the same
