Job summaryWe are looking for an experienced Practice Manager to lead the non-clinical side of the practice. You will report to our six GP partners, lead a team of around 35 practice staff (including a Deputy Practice Manager and an Operations Manager), and work alongside the PCN team. This is a senior role with real influence. You will inherit a well-established management structure and an experienced team, and have the opportunity to shape how a substantial two-site practice runs and develops over the coming years, including leading our CQC readiness and governance.
We are looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with visible day-to-day leadership. You will take ownership of complex issues, give clear advice to the partners, balance competing priorities and turn agreed decisions into reliable action.
Main duties of the jobOperational leadership- Lead the day-to-day operation of both sites, with a visible presence at Kings Langley and regular travel to Bovingdon.
- Provide clear direction to the Deputy Practice Manager, Operations Manager and administrative teams.
- Oversee premises, IT systems, digital developments and service improvement projects.
- Implement agreed partnership decisions and ensure actions are followed through
People- Lead workforce planning, recruitment, induction, appraisal, performance and absence management.
- Ensure HR policies are implemented consistently, and support staff wellbeing and team culture.
Finance and contracts- Support the partners in managing budgets, payroll, claims, contracts, expenditure and practice income.
- Provide accurate management information, advice and recommendations to the partners.
- Monitor QOF, enhanced-service and PCN activity and income in partnership with clinical and administrative leads.
Governance and compliance- Lead readiness for CQC inspection and maintain effective governance systems.
- Ensure policies, audits, risk registers, complaints processes, significant event reviews and training records are up to date.
- Oversee compliance with information governance, health and safety, premises and business continuity requirements.
External relationships- Represent the practice at PCN, locality, ICB and other external meetings.
- Help the practice respond to changes in NHS primary care.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Significant management or leadership experience in general practice, primary care, healthcare or another complex regulated organisation.
- Experience of leading teams, including recruitment, induction, appraisal, performance management and HR processes.
- Strong operational, organisational and problem-solving skills, with a track record of delivering service improvement.
- Ability to understand budgets, financial information and performance data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including giving well-reasoned advice to senior colleagues.
- Sound judgement, discretion and the ability to handle confidential information.
- Ability to work both strategically and hands-on.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and digital systems.
Desirable- Previous experience as a GP Practice Manager or Deputy Practice Manager.
- Knowledge of CQC requirements, QOF, enhanced services, PCNs and NHS primary care finance.
- Experience preparing for inspection or developing governance and compliance systems.
- Experience with EMIS or other primary care clinical systems.
- Experience managing premises, IT, digital change or business continuity.
- A relevant qualification in management, finance, HR or healthcare.
