Job summary
Specialty doctor for Community Paediatrics (1 year FTC). Full time 10 PAs. The Community Paediatric Service aims:
  • To provide a high-quality service for children with developmental needs, in collaboration with the child's family and primary carers working as part of the multi-agency team.
  • To assess, diagnose and support children presenting with neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • To effectively safeguard, protect and promote the welfare, health and wellbeing of looked after children and young people, as well as care leavers.
  • To provide statutory services to care of Looked After Children and those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • To ensure staff access Continuing Professional Development opportunities to provide continuing high standards of evidence based clinical care in line with professional and Government legislation, e.g. children and Family Act 2014, Every Child Matters and the NSF for Children and Families.

Main duties of the job
Specialty Doctor for Community Paediatrician Role - 6 PAs. Roles and responsibilities:
  • Child Development Assessment Clinics - neurodevelopmental assessment.
  • Assessment for children referred under 5 years for diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Working within Multidisciplinary Integrated Service at the Moor Lane Centre - joint assessments/MDT review/CPIP assessment/development of care pathways
  • Provide medical advice to the Local SEND according to statutory legislation and guidance for children with special educational needs.
  • Provide clinical supervision for junior medical staff based within the Integrated Service
  • Supervision of child protection medical examinations at Kingston Hospital

Children Looked After Service: 4 PAs per week:
The clinician will support all activities necessary to ensure that the organisation meets its responsibilities for looked after children and young people in Kingston. The doctor will be responsible to and accountable within the managerial framework of the provider organisation and at all times and in relation to the roles and responsibilities listed, work as a member of the organisation's looked after children's health team. Health professionals contributing to the care planning cycle for looked after children should have the appropriate skills and competences and receive continuing professional development.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MBBS Full GMC Registration (or eligibility to obtain)
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • CCT in Paediatrics and on GMC's Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of the interview or have confirmed eligibility for Specialist Registration
  • Associate Specialist Grade with community paediatric experience
  • Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application.

Clinical Experience
  • Current wide range of Community Paediatrics experience
  • Adequate training in child protection to meet the needs of the Named Doctor post
  • Training and experience with Children Looked After and adoption work
  • Completing initial and review health assessments of CiC
  • Experience in writing adoption reports and adult health reports
  • Valid Level 4 Safeguarding Training
  • Valid BLS Training

Specific Additional Skills
  • Evidence of working within a multiagency team
  • Digital record keeping
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Management Skills
  • Awareness and understanding of clinical governance processes
  • Involvement in management appropriate to experience
  • Experience of working in MDT
  • IT skills of presentation

Experience in Training, Audit and Research
  • Ability to teach and train undergraduates and junior doctors.
  • Experience of clinical audit / QI projects.
  • Relevant research articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Personal Qualities
  • Demonstrate leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice and to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm and approachability.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and clinical governance
