Job summary
Are you passionate about CT & dedicated to providing high quality patient care & excellent service? Do you want to gain more CT experience? If so, this is the job for you!

We are seeking an enthusiastic Radiographer to join our friendly team. You will be required to work at Preston Hospital & at the Community Diagnostic Centre and may occasionally be required to work at Chorley Hospital.

Ideally, you will have prior CT experience, but training will be provided to suitable & motivated candidates.

This position may be offered as a link grade and as such would be appointed as a band 5 (dependent on experience). You would progress to a band 6 on completion of relevant competencies and the CT training programme.

We also welcome applications from newly qualified radiographers who would be required to complete the trust preceptorship scheme in addition to our CT training programme.

Within the trust we have 4 static scanners and a mobile scanner. We also have a PMCT scanner. If desired, there is the possibility of gaining experience in the PMCT department.

We undertake a variety of scans including major trauma, neurosurgical, oncology, vascular, cardiac and colonography.

We actively promote role development and CPD by encouraging staff to undertake post graduate courses and further training.

The department operates 24/7 & we require candidates to be flexible to meet the needs of the department. Current working patterns include long days, weekends and night shifts.

Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the planning and allocation of work in the specific area of the department assigned, to ensure the timely delivery of an effective service.

You will monitor and maintain standards of professional practice, supervise more junior staff and deploy staff assuring standards are met. As well as providing leadership and direction to the team, acting as a role model and patient advocate.

This role requires you to assess, plan and make informed decisions on the required imaging examinations, providing advice and maintaining associated records. You will also be required to support the aims and vision of the Trust and to take personal responsibility for the quality of the service provided.

Job responsibilities
  • Assist and support the Principal and Lead radiographers in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.
  • Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organization.
  • Be responsible for the delivery and coordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.
  • Ensure a high radiographic standard is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of standards to meet patients needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines.
  • Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
  • Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Communicate with patients, relatives and other healthcare workers to ensure appropriate dissemination of complex information, in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating.
  • Promote equality in care and practice by recognizing, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
  • Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
  • To participate in education and training of junior staff.
  • Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 and IR (ME) R 2017 and related departmental protocols and procedures.
  • Use information Technology systems as required at every level of the role.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education
Essential
  • DCR/BSc (or pending imminent qualification)
  • HCPC registered (or pending imminent qualification)
  • Previous NHS Experience

Desirable
  • Attendance at study days.
  • Attendance at conferences,


Knowledge & Experience
Essential
  • Some experience in CT scanning
  • Involvement with QA
  • Awareness of changes within imaging practice
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures

Desirable
  • Experience in CT covering a range of CT procedures
  • Experience of Audit.
