12 month fixed term contract.
Candidates MUST have the right to work in the UK, we are not able to offer sponsorship for this position.
Candidates must be able to work Monday or Friday with a minimum of four sessions.

Leeds Student Medical Practice are looking for an enthusiastic GP to join their team on a 12 month fixed term basis. This role will be funded as part of the PCN additional roles reimbursement scheme (ARRS)

The role will be solely based at Leeds Student Medical Practice on the outskirts of Leeds city centre.

Main duties of the job
Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide face-to-face and telephone consultations for routine and urgent care.
  • Conduct patient home visits (low frequency).
  • Manage patient care in surgery, including investigating and reviewing results, developing care plans, and making referrals to secondary care or other providers.
  • Issue and sign repeat prescriptions, ensuring they align with national/local guidelines.
  • Administer and handle patient-related queries, test results, referral letters, and other tasks in a timely manner.
  • Record clear, contemporaneous consultation notes using EMIS clinical system.
  • Ensure safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective care, in line with Practice disease management protocols and NICE guidance.
  • Independently prescribe medications within your scope of practice.
  • Review and manage patient medications following appropriate policies and local clinical guidelines.
  • Utilise other available clinical and support staff in delivering a holistic and patient centred care.
  • Actively participate in MDT and care conference meetings, as required.
  • If required, participate in on-call duties on a pro-rata basis.

Leeds Student Medical Practice (LSMP) are a busy GP Surgery, close to the University of Leeds, caring for students and their families studying in the City.

LSMP strives to provide inclusive, non-judgemental person-centred care to a diverse student population coming from the UK and around the world. Our ethos is grounded in compassion, accessibility, and equity, recognising the unique pressures and challenges of student life.

The Practice clinical priorities include Sexual and Reproductive Health, Mental health and wellbeing, young adult long-term condition diagnosis and management, and LGBTQIA+ health. There is a strong focus on prevention, early intervention, and continuity of care.

We are seeking colleagues, both clinical and non-clinical, who are willing to work with the needs of the registered patients and are open to developing their skills in responding to the clinical priorities.   • Maintain awareness of clinical practice developments.
  • Attend weekly huddle meetings, Friday Lunchtime training and clinical meetings
  • Participate in an annual performance review and take responsibility for personal development.
  • Engage in mandatory training and attend courses as needed.

Team Collaboration:
  • Provide clinical support and guidance to both clinical and administrative staff to maintain the highest care standards.
  • Collaborate with health and social care providers to deliver an integrated, safe service.

Risk Management and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all practice policies and procedures, including those related to prescribing, confidentiality, and data protection.
  • Apply infection control measures and manage risks in compliance with local and national guidelines.
  • Contribute to clinical governance through audits, peer reviews, and significant event analysis.

Patient Safety and Confidentiality:
  • Ensure patient and carer confidentiality, in line with practice policies.
  • Manage patient data securely, only disclosing it to authorised persons.

  • Support equality and diversity in all aspects of patient care and teamwork.
  • Respect the privacy, dignity, and rights of patients and colleagues.

Personal/Professional Development:
The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include:

Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development.

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines.

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.

Safeguarding:
The post-holder will assist in promoting and protecting against any safeguarding concerns relating to Children and Adults, to include:

To recognise and report to the appropriate authorities any concerns regarding Vulnerable Adult issues to include social care and mental health.

All staff must comply with mandatory training requirements and ensure that adult safeguarding is embedded as an essential part of their daily practice.

To recognise and report to the appropriate authorities any concerns regarding Child Protection issues to include possible child abuse.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
  • General Practice Experience: Newly qualified GP (within 2 years) or recently completed GP training.
  • Must be fully registered with the General Medical Council.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to make confident decisions.
  • Professional Conduct: Ability to work within professional codes of conduct, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
  • Organisational Skills: Ability to manage time, workload, and patient-related administration efficiently.
  • Team Player: Willingness to work across multiple practices and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable
  • Clinical Systems Knowledge: Experience with EMIS preferred.
