Job summaryThis is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant in General Internal Medicine (GIM). This post will be available for a period of 6 months and will be based at St Jamess University Hospital.
The postholder will predominantly help to provide cover for younger adult in-patients admitted with a range of acute and acute-on-chronic general medical conditions. There will also be opportunities to contribute to our admissions wards, including supporting our Elderly Medicine department, as well as service development.
The successful applicant should hold accreditation in GIM through the Royal College of Physicians or an equivalent qualification. They should also be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Our service is currently expanding, and we expect to make several substantive appointments in 2027.
The ideal applicant for this post will be able to demonstrate the following attributes: strong clinical knowledge and skills in GIM, positive response to the challenges of service development, resilience and flexibility in the face of change, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will be able to work cooperatively with colleagues both at consultant level and across the multidisciplinary team.

What you will bring to the roleThis is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant in General Internal Medicine (GIM), ideally with a special interest in either Acute Internal Medicine or Geriatric Medicine.
The postholder will deliver 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care (including specialty interest sessions) and 1.5 PAs supporting professional activity.
The post will be based at St James’s University Hospital (SJUH).
