Description

Leeds Teaching Hospitals
Nuclear Medicine Radiographer / Technologist

Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Technologist or Radiographer to join the current team. Ideally the candidate should have some clinical Nuclear Medicine experience, however training will be given. There is potential in the future for the Department to support post-graduate level education, which would place the candidate in a strong position to be considered for future band 6 positions.

The Nuclear Medicine Department at St James Hospital has four state of the art gamma cameras, including three hybrid GE D670/640 SPECT/CT machines, with two of these being replaced in the near future. The department provides a wide range of imaging and non-imaging services. There is an on-site radiopharmacy producing radiopharmaceuticals for both sites.

A collaborative PET-CT service is also running within the Nuclear Medicine department at St Jamess, providing complex research PET/CT, brain PET/CT, paediatric scanning, as well as routine PET/CT imaging.

The Nuclear Medicine Department at Leeds General Infirmary has a GE 850 SPECT/CT camera and a GE Discovery 530C solid state dedicated cardiac gamma camera. This department provides a supra-regional service for nuclear cardiology investigations including myocardial perfusion imaging, and provides general nuclear medicine services for adults and paediatrics.

Main duties of the job
Leeds is a large, busy centre for Nuclear Medicine supporting patients across the region. You will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Nuclear Medicine imaging service, including quality assurance, clinical scanning, and injecting radiopharmaceuticals. The main duties would involve; ensuring patients have followed correct preparation for different scans, explanation of procedure, injecting a range of radiopharmaceuticals and associated medicines for specific tests, completing diagnostic imaging (static/dynamic/hybrid) and processing images in readiness for reporting. The candidate would ideally have some paediatric experience but be willing to train in this area if not. Experience in myocardial perfusion scanning and associated pharmacological stress testing would be desirable but training will be available, if required. We encourage all staff to further their own development and be involved with additional roles to continually evolve our service, examples of this include radiation protection supervisor, patient engagement lead, infection prevention lead, departmental audits, and suchlike. The Trust actively supports continuing professional development, and a staff appraisal system is in operation throughout the trust.
