Clinical / Nurse EndoscopistThe closing date is 07 August 2026Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has become available for an accredited Clinical / Nurse Endoscopist to join our established and highly regarded Endoscopy team. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of a high quality, patient centered endoscopy service while supporting the ongoing development and growth of the service.
The post holder will work closely with the Endoscopy Clinical Leads, Lead Clinical Endoscopist, Service Manager, and Matron to ensure the delivery of an effective, efficient, and patient-focused service. Care will be provided in accordance with agreed clinical protocols, guidelines, and pathways for patients undergoing gastrointestinal investigations.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced and highly skilled endoscopy professionals, further develop their expertise, and gain additional endoscopic accreditation where appropriate.
Main duties of the jobClinical/ Nurse Endoscopist play a vital role within the Endoscopy department, playing a key role in service improvement, maintaining clinical excellence, and ensuring national and local waiting time targets are achieved. They also contribute to delivering a positive patient experience and high standards of care for both current and future patients.
This role is ideally suited to an accredited Upper GI Endoscopist and/or an endoscopist accredited in both upper and lower GI procedures. The post holder will undertake up to five endoscopy lists per week and, where appropriate, conduct follow up clinics to discuss investigation findings and management plans with patients.
Working as an autonomous expert practitioner, the successful candidate will utilise advanced clinical knowledge and skills to independently perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper and/or lower gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures on both sedated and non-sedated patients. They will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice and patient safety.

Job responsibilitiesWork as an autonomous expert practitioner, the successful candidate will utilise advanced clinical knowledge and skills to independently perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper and/or lower gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures on both sedated and non-sedated patients.
Use highly developed communication and interpersonal skills required to disseminate sensitive and potentially complex information to various patient groups.
Work within defined clinical protocols and be responsible and accountable for a prescribed protocol driven clinical caseload receiving referrals for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients who present with GI symptoms.
Deal with complex clinical situations recognise and instigate treatment where appropriate in patients experiencing an adverse event or reaction and recognise limitations and seek advice when required
Ensure details of procedure are accurately entered into computerised and paper records and results are communicated to the patients General Practitioner.
To produce written clinical assessments in the medical notes, endoscopy reports and letters to GP and patients to inform the referring clinician and patient of diagnosis, rationale for prescribed plan of care and follow up.
Contribute to developing clinical governance within the endoscopy team including undertaking quality improvements using audit findings
Person SpecificationEDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONSEssential- JAG (Joint Advisory Group) Accredited
- Non-medical prescribing
- Evidence of academic achievement MSc or equivalent experience plus significant knowledge acquired over a significant period
- Registered with relevant professional body
Desirable- Train the trainer (TCT)
- Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development
ExperienceEssential- Able to perform therapeutics, e.g. polypectomy (Level 1 & 2), band ligation, EMR,
- 5 years post registration experience
- Evidence of meeting /exceeding JAG KPI's
- Understanding of JAG Accreditation standards for endoscopy services
- Evidence of involvement in the training and development of staff
Desirable- Evidence of conducting audits
- Experience in planning activities and quality improvement projects
Skills and KnowledgeEssential- Competent IT skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
