Description

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust
Locum Consultant - Neonatal

Closing date 14 July 2026

Job summary
We are keen to appoint an enthusiastic Neonatal consultant on a 12-month FTC to join the team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

This is a new position in the Department of Paediatrics at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, which provides a clinical service at both Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury (TWH) and Maidstone Hospital.

This is a new NNU consultant post to complement the existing 6 consultants on the call rota for NNU. This post has been created in line with the recent BAPM (British Association of Perinatal Medicine) guideline and will make us compliant with the provision of 1 in 7 NNU consultants on calls.

This post provides the experience of working at the Consultant level, doing Consultant of the week in level 2 NNU in a 1:7 rota. Consultants are expected to do normal neonatal follow-up and general paediatric clinics for all ages (0-16 years) in non-hot weeks. Preference will be given to candidates who have done a SPIN module in neonates and can demonstrate adequate neonatal experience.

This post does not have any commitment as a resident on call unless there are emergency gaps on the rota. The General Paediatrics cohort will cover A & E and General Paediatrics. There is no commitment to cover general paediatric on calls. We would encourage part-time and job sharers to apply for these jobs. TWH at Pembury has 6500 deliveries per annum.

Main duties of the job
To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients referred to you and cared for by you personally or by members of your team, and, in addition, any patients of consultant colleagues when you are covering on-call or for annual leave.

To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments to ensure a high standard of patient care across the Trust. To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the speciality, to provide high-quality health care to the Trust's patients, and make a contribution to future thinking about the Trust's strategic direction.

To participate fully in and share leadership of the clinical governance of the speciality, covering its Trust-wide activities. To attend clinical governance half-days as detailed in the Trust's Guide to Job Planning, unless on agreed leave or while attending emergencies.
