Job summary
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our existing team as a Band 8a Chief Biomedical Scientist in the Therapeutic Stem Cell Laboratory. You will be HCPC registered with a relevant MSc or Higher Specialist Diploma.

Main duties of the job
As a Laboratory Chief for the Stem Cell Laboratory, you will be required to take responsibility of the department in defined areas of the service including clinical trials, operational management, departmental resources and technical services, staff, finance, equipment and space.

Working with senior colleagues you will be responsible for the overall operation and development of laboratory service areas providing a quality led, efficient and safe service and provide specialist advice on scientific and technical issues

This is a exciting post for an enthusiastic, forward thinking individual who will make a significant managerial and scientific contribution to the development of the department as a whole, with a focus on delivering an increased number of clinical trials.

You will organize and account for all aspects of service delivery and available resources to include the transplant programmes and requirements for NHS commissioned work, commercial and clinical trials (independent and/or collaborative) and new developments. You will understand current and emerging clinical trials governance (guidance, standards and legislation) and will provide expert interpretation of potential consequences and capacity on service delivery

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • HCPC registered, Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences / MSc or equivalent.
  • Recognised management qualification or attendance at short courses on relevant management issues.
  • Evidence of CPD

Desirable
  • Member of recognised CPD scheme

Knowledge
Essential
  • Considerable experience within Stem cell or similar discipline, with substantial experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Awareness of laboratory and management issues within specialist area e.g. HTA Compliance & JACIE standards/accreditation, Clinical Governance and Risk Management, Health and Safety, HR Policies

Desirable
  • Considerable experience within Stem Cell or similar discipline, with substantial experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Awareness of laboratory and management issues within specialist area e.g. HTA Compliance & JACIE standards/accreditation

Experience
Essential
  • Substantial experience of clinical and laboratory haematology in senior capacity.
  • Evidence of training and development of staff including performance management
  • Experience with laboratory computer systems. Comprehensive IT skills

Desirable
  • Evidence of laboratory and financial management

  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to liaise with all grades of staff in and out of the department.
  • Evidence of working with and leading a team
