Job summary
Applications are invited for this this post within the Cardiology Department for an Interventional Cardiologist, with a focus on transcatheter valve intervention at the Manchester Foundation NHS Trust. Manchester Foundation NHS Trust (MFT) is one of the leading interventional cardiology units in the United Kingdom, with a national & international profile for service, innovation, and research. MFT serves a regional population of over 3.2 million in Greater Manchester and performs over 800 primary PCI procedures annually, making it one of the highest volume PPCI centre in the UK. In total, more than 2800 PCI procedures are carried out annually, including complex PCI and CTO procedures. The transcatheter valve intervention service is internationally renowned. Over 250 TAVI procedures are performed annually. We are the commissioned regional centre for mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER). Other percutaneous structural interventions include; tricuspid TEER; transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve replacement; and paravalvular leak closure. Manchester is at the forefront of innovation, research, and education in transcatheter valve intervention. There are currently 13 interventional cardiology consultants 4 of whom provide the transcatheter valve service with the support of 2 TAVI Fellows, 4 Valve Nurse Specialists, 3 Pathway Navigators/MDT Co-ordinators. Visiting coronary interventionists also contribute to the PPCI on-call rota.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will specialise in transcatheter valve intervention. We are seeking an individual focused on excellence and innovation, who will contribute to the delivery and development of the TAVI, mitral, and tricuspid programmes in Manchester. The post-holder will contribute to the rotas for acute and primary PCI, as well as Consultant of the Week for General Cardiology wards. A major interest in clinical research is expected. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is desirable. The successful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. See job description for full details.

Person Specification
Essential
  • Mb ChB or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Specialist Register for Cardiology or CCT within 6 months of interview
  • Broad training in general cardiology extensive training in intervention
  • Competent in managerment of acute and chronic heart failure
  • Ability to integrate within a multidisciplinary team
  • A high degree of motivation and personal self-discipline.
  • Ability to function both as a member and a potential leader of a multi-disciplinary clinical team.
  • High level of resilience.
  • Commitment to an understanding of the principles of audit.
  • Experience in organisation and undertaking audit.
  • Research and evidence base to practice
  • Ability to manage own time and work effectively, understanding of role and importance of management in the NHS.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Evidence of leading a team

Desirable
  • Additional higher degree(MD or PhD) in relevant subject
  • Evidence of research, service development or experience in innovative technology
