Job summaryManchester Royal Infirmary is seeking enthusiastic and motivated Radiographers to join our MRI team. Applicants should possess a solid foundation in MRI practice and be able to work fixed-day 13-hour shifts within a busy and rewarding clinical environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for radiographers looking to further develop their MRI career. Successful candidates will gain exposure to a wide range of advanced and complex MRI examinations, supported by an experienced team committed to professional development. We offer training and mentorship in specialist areas, enabling staff to expand their clinical expertise and develop advanced scanning skills within a leading tertiary MRI service.
Main duties of the jobComprehensive training will be provided in advanced MRI techniques and specialist areas of practice. Successful applicants will join a supportive MRI team and work closely with colleagues in a busy, dynamic, and patient-focused environment.
The department operates a Siemens Aera 1.5T wide-bore scanner and a Siemens Viato 1.5T Mobile MRI scanner. We also undertake specialist imaging sessions on the University of Manchester's 3T GE PET/MR scanner.
We perform a broad range of examinations, including neurological, musculoskeletal, vascular, gynaecological, genitourinary, and gastrointestinal imaging. The department also has a Cardiac MRI service, and training opportunities will be available for those wishing to develop expertise in this area.
Additional training and support will be provided for complex and specialist examinations, including imaging patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (pacemakers and ICDs), cochlear implants, neurostimulators, and other MR Conditional devices, enabling staff to develop advanced MRI skills within a progressive and expanding service.

This is a standard process across the NHS and helps us ensure a safe environment for everyone.
What is a DBS Check?A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:
- Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
- Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police thats considered relevant to the role.
- Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the childrens and/or adults barred lists.
Who Needs a DBS CheckMost roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.
The Costs for a DBSAt Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.
