Job summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join us in an established Eye Retrieval Service. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to vital eye tissue donation efforts, ensuring the timely and respectful retrieval of ocular tissue for transplantation and research. You will be a key stakeholder in the development and continued evolution of the service for MFT, both at its inception and future phased expansion plans. You will be provided with expert training and support from clinicians within MREH as well as our NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) colleagues to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role will include identification of appropriate tissue donors. This would involve daily scrutiny of patient records and ensuring that potential donors full within the expected strict parameters. Once highlighted as suitable donors the expectation would then involve the undertaking of a sensitive and empathetic approach to relatives with a view to considering eye retrieval. If approval and consent is provided the practitioner will then undertake the eye retrieval. All the training in order to undertake this service will be provided by the National Health Service Blood and Transfusion (NHSBT) team.

What is a DBS Check?

The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Qualifications
Essential

• First level registration (RN)
• Educated to diploma level Evidence of level 3 studies.
• Practice Supervisor/Assessor

Desirable

• Counselling Qualification
• Graduate or working towards first degree in health-related subject
• Specialty qualification Teaching qualification

Experience and Knowlesge
Essential

• Recent evidence of continuing professional and personal development, both clinical and manageria
• Demonstrates knowledge of audit/research recommendations
• Registered healthcare professional with relevant experience (e.g., ophthalmology, critical care, pathology, nursing, bereavement, end of life services or organ and tissue donation).

Desirable

• Experience in practical procedures in Ophthalmology
