Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Rheumatology Specialist Nurse to deliver expert care for patients with rheumatology conditions across our Trust. The post is aimed at further developing nurse led care and provision of services for patients seen in the rheumatology department at all 3 sites of Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust.We are looking for a nurse who enjoys working collaboratively as part of a small, friendly multi-disciplinary team with a focus on providing holistic,evidence based and cost effective care.Whilst this is a full -time post, consideration will also be given to applicants who wish to work part time hours.

Main duties of the job
The post involves the assessment, monitoring and treatment provision for patients with inflammatory diseases. This involves the care of patients who require disease modifying anti-rheumatic medications, biologic therapies and care of patients with osteoporosis.The main duties of the post include medication counselling, assessment of disease in nurse led clinics, drug monitoring database, osteoporosisclinics as well as administering intravenous and subcutaneous medications.A requirement to undertake further study for patients receiving chemotherapy for non-malignant conditions as well as a non-medical prescribingcourse will be essential for developing within the postWhilst previous rheumatology experience is desirable, we would welcome applications from experienced nurses who would like to develop theirinterest in caring for patients with complex auto-immune and inflammatory diseases.

Education, Qualification and Training
Essential
  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Teaching and Assessing Qualification
  • Prior experience in medical nursing or related speciality

Desirable
  • SACT course
  • Advance History Taking and Assessment
  • Non- medical prescribing qualification

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Essential
  • Venepuncture and cannulation skills
  • Experience of MDT working
  • Clinical, diagnostic and assessment skills
  • Computer literate with experienced use of databases

Desirable
  • Previous audit or research experience
  • Completion of management or leadership programme
