Job summary
The paediatric Spinal Surgery Department provides a secondary service, together with a busy tertiary service which forms a large proportion of our workload. We have specialist services for neuromuscular scoliosis, neurofibromatosis and metabolic disorders some of which are internationally recognised. We are the only paediatric spinal surgery provider for Greater Manchester and we provide neuromuscular and metabolic services to a much larger area.

Tertiary paediatric spinal services include those for children with neuro-muscular, syndromic, congenital and idiopathic scoliosis along with all routine spinal conditions in children.

The paediatric spinal surgeons comprise part of a multidisciplinary team which also includes Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.

Due to the short-term nature of the role, the successful candidate must hold a current registration with the GMC at the time of application, whether it be an active licence, ceased licence or a pending application -MFT cannot support GMC Sponsorship for vacancies less than 12 months fixed term. Candidates who do not fit this criteria will not progress through to the shortlisting stage.

Please note: MFT is not a right to work sponsoring organisation for Tier 5. Should a candidate require Tier 5 sponsorship, they must apply through the Academy of Royal College via the MTI Scheme.

Main duties of the job
The main purpose of this role would be to provide a clinical service in Spinal surgery including elective clinics, elective lists and ward supervision.

The role will also support the Paediatric Orthopaedic junior doctor on call rota every one in three Fridays.

Qualified FRCS and at least four years' full time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in orthopaedic surgery or as a fixed term specialty trainee in orthopaedic surgery or shall have the equivalent experience and competencies. In addition at least two year's experience should have been gained in a post involving paediatric cases.
