Job summaryWard A3 at the Wythenshawe site of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is currently recruiting a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our elective and silver trauma orthopaedic ward. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced Band 5 nurses aspiring to take the next step in their career, as well as existing Band 6 and Band 7 nurses looking to further develop their leadership and clinical skills. Ward A3 cares for a diverse patient group including elective orthopaedic, emergency admissions and silver trauma patients, offering a wide range of learning opportunities in the management of complex orthopaedic needs. Our ward provides a supportive and welcoming environment with a focus on delivering high-quality, safe patient care while developing staff to reach their full potential.
Applicants must hold a valid NMC PIN.Main duties of the jobMain duties of the role- Provide effective clinical leadership and coordination of the ward, acting as Nurse in Charge and ensuring safe, high-quality care delivery
- Support the Ward Manager with the operational management of Ward A3, including staffing, patient flow and day-to-day service delivery
- Deliver and promote safe, evidence-based care for elective, emergency and silver trauma orthopaedic patients
- Act as a role model and mentor to junior staff, supporting development, supervision and performance
- Maintain a strong focus on patient safety, experience and clinical outcomes, ensuring care is patient-centred and responsive
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives, audit and quality assurance to enhance the patient journey
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective communication and continuity of care
- Support effective use of workforce systems (e.g. rostering and safe staffing tools) to maintain appropriate skill mix and staffing levels
- Participate in incident reporting, learning and governance processes to promote a culture of continuous improvement and safety

The Costs for a DBSAt Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy.
