Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Midwife to join our leadership team as Community Maternity Matron.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior midwifery leader with a passion for delivering high-quality care and driving continuous improvement. You will provide strong clinical and operational leadership, supporting managers and senior clinical colleagues to promote excellence in midwifery practice across community maternity services.

You will play a key role in maintaining high clinical standards, ensuring the delivery of safe, compassionate, and effective care for women, babies, and their families. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will lead quality improvement initiatives and support the achievement of key performance and quality objectives.

As a visible and supportive leader, you will foster a culture of accountability, professional development, and continuous learning, empowering teams to deliver excellent patient experiences and outcomes.

Based primarily at Broomfield Hospital, you will work as part of the wider Mid and South Essex Maternity Team, contributing to service development and supporting the delivery of consistent, high-quality maternity care across the Group.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide visible, accessible and professional leadership to ensure the highest standards of patient experience, inspiring confidence among patients, families, carers and the wider public.
  • Act as an expert practitioner and role model, promoting Trust values, professional standards and excellence in clinical practice.
  • Ensure all patients receive compassionate, dignified and respectful care, recognising and valuing the diversity of the local community.
  • Lead and promote best practice in infection prevention and control, maintaining a clean, safe and high-quality care environment.
  • Oversee the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality midwifery and nursing care within community services, ensuring positive outcomes and experiences for patients and families.
  • Support acute inpatient matrons and clinical teams to maintain consistently high standards of care, patient safety and patient experience across services.
  • Work in partnership with the Associate Director of Midwifery and Governance Team to achieve national and local targets, manage risk, learn from incidents and drive continuous quality improvement.
  • Participate in the manager on-call rota, providing senior operational and clinical leadership as required.

  • Educated to Degree Level

Desirable
  • Educated to Masters Level
  • Leadership qualification

Experience
Essential
  • Has experience as a Band 7 Midwife
  • Has proven people management/leadership

Desirable
  • Has experience regarding data collection and analysis
  • Has experience in quality improvement
  • Has previous experience working as a labour ward co-ordinator
