Junior Charge Nurse - Frederick Banting Ward (Regional Vascular Unit)

Are you an enthusiastic, dynamic and experienced nurse ready to take the next step in your leadership journey? We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Charge Nurse to join the dedicated team on Frederick Banting Ward, home to the Regional Vascular Unit.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills within a specialist surgical environment. Working as part of a highly motivated multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional patient care while supporting the Ward Manager with the operational management and clinical leadership of the ward.

You will work across a rotational pattern of day and night shifts, responding flexibly to the needs of the service. A genuine interest in vascular and surgical nursing is essential, along with a passion for high-quality patient care, service improvement, and staff development.

Main duties of the job

Work alongside the Ward Manager as Nurse in Charge to assess patient needs, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality nursing care.

Provide clinical leadership and day-to-day coordination of the ward, supporting the maintenance of high standards of patient care and service delivery.

Supervise, support and develop junior nursing staff, nursing associates, healthcare support workers and students, undertaking the role of Practice Assessor or Practice Supervisor as required.

Monitor staff performance and contribute to the development of a positive learning environment that promotes professional growth and evidence-based practice.

Foster effective communication and collaborative working relationships across the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, patient-centred care.

Maintain positive relationships with patients, relatives and carers, ensuring accessibility, effective communication and a high standard of patient experience.

Ensure the safe administration, storage, custody and management of medicines in accordance with legal requirements, Trust policies and professional standards.

Promote a safe working environment by adhering to and maintaining knowledge of Trust policies and procedures, including Manual Handling, Fire Safety, Cardiac Arrest, Major Incident and Health and Safety requirements.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Significant experience as a band 5 Registered Nurse post registration

Desirable
  • Demonstrable experience as a Band 6 and/or mentorship course completion
  • Vascular nursing experience or post qualification programme of study.

Communication

Essential
  • Excellent written communication skills

Desirable
  • Good computer Literacy

Interest

Essential
  • Interested in all aspects of Vascular surgery and patient care of critically ill patients.

Desirable
  • evidence in practice of vascular nursing or equivalent
