Job summary
We are looking for two Specialty Doctors in Acute Medicine with passion and drive to further develop and deliver our Acute Medical services. We recognise the importance of a rewarding and sustainable job role especially given the high acuity and pressures associated with delivery of Acute Care. Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe in theAcute Medical Unit, Division of Medicine and Emergency Care.

The post is offered on a full time, or job share basis, the job plan being intended for a full time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.

The successful candidates will be highly motivated with a passion to improve the quality of patient care. They will have strong communication skills and be an excellent 'Team Player'. They will value training and education.

About us
Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides comprehensive hospital and community services for East Cheshire (population 399K) and West Cheshire and Chester (population 357K). Our services include planned and unplanned/emergency care, cardiac and critical care, child health, maternity, and intermediate care across Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford.

Through our community arm, Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership, we deliver extensive services in 26 medical centres and schools in collaboration with Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS FT and the South Cheshire and Vale Royal GP Alliance. With 500 beds and around 5,500 staff, we are one of the area's largest employers.

Since the formation of Integrated Care Systems in July 2022, the Trust has become a key partner in Cheshire East & Cheshire West and Chester and in two provider collaboratives, aligning our strategic goals with the Cheshire & Merseyside Integrated Care System.

The post is offered at 10 Programmed Activities.

Direct Clinical Care (DCC) 9 PAs per week (includes clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work).

Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) 1 PA per week (includes CPD, audit, research, and appraisal).

Qualifications
Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

Eligibility
Essential
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies (or equivalent) by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
  • Evidence of achievement of ST1 & ST2 competences (or equivalent) in a relevant specialty
  • MRCP Part 1 and working towards full MRCP

Skills
Essential
  • Acute care safe: up-to-date ALS. Out of hours experience relevant to the job.
  • Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job, specialty knowledge exam.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job.

Fitness to Practise
Essential
  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practise
  • Applicants' knowledge is up to date and fit to practise safely

Specialty specific skills related to the post
Essential
  • Evidence of Quality improvement
  • Experience of independent practice in partaking and leading the acute unselected take
  • Experience of clinical activity in continuing ward care of patients admitted with acute medical problems
  • Experience and competence in caring for the acutely unwell and deteriorating patient
  • Experience of care of the elderly Medicine
  • Competence in a range of common acute medical procedure: lumber puncture, ascitic taps, nasogastric tube insertion. Plurel procedure, central cannulation, urinary catheterisation, direct current cardioversion and abdominal centesis. Skill lab trained in external temporary cardiac pacing
  • Evidence of education skills and teaching attendance

Desirable
  • Quality improvement in Acute medicine
  • Clinical experience of outpatient clinical activity
  • 12 weeks of critical care in one single block completion of a 4 month consultant supervised care of the elderly placement
  • Evidence of independent practice of leading the unselected take
  • Evidence of independent practice of continued ward care of patients admitted with acute medical problems
  • Evidence of Simulation training including: procedural skill, human factors and scenario training
  • Skill lab trained in external temporary cardiac pacing

Communication skills
Essential
  • Effective communication skills: demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication and capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation
  • Empathy and sensitivity: capacity to listen and take in others' perspectives
  • Works in partnership with patients: always considers patients preferences when discussing treatment options
