Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and enthusiastic Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy team.

This exciting new role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to oversee the development and implementation of a new service at both Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (MYTT) and Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT), working together as part of the South Sector Non Surgical Oncology (NSO) collaboration.

The development of the Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) Out of Hospital Service will improve patient experience for eligible patients undergoing anti-cancer treatment at our organisations, by enabling them to receive treatment in their own homes as part of our commitment to delivering outstanding compassionate care to the communities we serve and providing high quality healthcare services at home.

As well as being innovative, motivated and enthusiastic, the successful candidate must possess (or be in the process of completing) a Product Approver Accreditation Qualification (PAAP), have significant experience of working and managing change at a senior level in a specialism relevant to this role, be highly organised with strong negotiation and communication skills.

PLEASE NOTE: This role is a multi-organisation post between MYTT and CHFT, whilst MYTT will be the primary base, there is an expectation for the successful candidate to work flexibly across both sites.

Main duties of the job
  • Manage the service providing out of hospital systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) and when required taking responsibility for appropriate pharmacy services, including aseptic services.
  • Take the lead role in developing the out of hospital SACT service ensuring all services meet statutory and legal requirements ensuring best quality patient care.
  • Assists the Operational Manager in meeting the performance management requirements of the Trusts, in particular, expenditure targets, cost control, quality and activity targets.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of long-term South Sector non-surgical oncology (NSO) action plans, including workforce planning, and new ways of working, to support the needs of the Trusts and enhance patient experience.
  • Provides managerial and professional leadership for Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants and support staff within the Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy Services (MOPS) across the Trusts.
  • Assist in the delivery of the South Sector NSO and MOPS strategies, ensuring the patient experience is the primary focus of all staff working within the areas of responsibility.
  • To write departmental and implement MYTT and CHFT wide/departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Contribute to the Pharmacy Technical Service as a Pharmacy Technician practising at an advanced level, including final product approval.
  • Work with the Operational Manager to deliver the Trust Strategy for Technical Services.
  • Assist with managing service change

Job responsibilities
  • BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
  • GPhC Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Degree level qualification in relevant subject e.g. Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance (PTQA diploma), Business Studies (NVQ4) or equivalent relevant experience
  • Practices as an accredited final product approver
  • Extensive post-qualification experience, which must include demonstrable evidence of working at a senior level within the hospital sector.
  • Significant experience of working in an area relevant to this role
  • Experience of managing change in a complex environment
  • Experience of Project Management
  • Proven track record in Human Resources management
  • Portfolio of evidence for continuing professional development
  • Experience of writing procedures
  • Experience of managing a large multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working with other services users across the organisation
  • Detailed knowledge of a wide range of Human Resources procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of legislative aspects of medicines use
  • Complaints management
  • Awareness of own limitations.
  • The post holder must have keyboard skills and familiarity with routine office software – word processing, spread-sheeting and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The post holder will need to present written and verbal reports on medicines usage and related pharmacy issues to consultants, senior hospital managers and Trust Directors

  • Must be physically able to visit wards and departments within the hospital and to visit other Trust sites as required by the activities of the job.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
