Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for
Band 5 Children's Community Occupational Therapist's to join our friendly and supportive Children's Occupational Therapy team across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
In this role, you will work with children and young people aged
0-19 years who have
physical disabilities and motor coordination difficulties, supporting them to develop independence and maximise participation in daily activities at home, school, and within their communities.
You will manage a
varied caseload, completing assessments and delivering evidence-based, child-centred interventions across a range of settings including
clinics, homes, nurseries, and schools. You will work closely with families, education staff, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic and meaningful outcomes for children.
Part of the role includes contributing to the development of
universal and targeted support packages for schools, helping to build inclusive environments and improve access to learning.
You will be well supported within a structured team environment, receiving regular supervision from experienced therapists, alongside opportunities for
ongoing professional development and training.
Main duties of the job- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate occupational therapy interventions for children and young people
- Deliver therapy in a range of community settings including home, school, and clinics
- Support schools and families to implement therapy programmes and strategies
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to EHCP processes
- Provide training and advice to parents, carers, and education staff
- Maintain accurate clinical records using electronic systems (RIO)
- Contribute to service development and evidence-based practice

Job responsibilities
Main duties and responsibilities- To effectively manage a caseload through assessment, treatment and evaluation using clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice in clinic, the childs home or school/nursery environment.
- To provide assessments using the telephone and/or video technology.
- To administer standardise motor assessments which require coordination, manual dexterity skills to demonstrate the task to be assessed.
- To prioritise and interpret referral information to provide the most appropriate assessment, using standardised and non-standardised tests and clinical observations.
- To interpret assessment findings in relation to the functional difficulties of the child looking at all areas of the childs life, considering parent, child, teacher and other professional opinions.
- To assess and recommend equipment to enable a child to participate in schoolwork activities.
- Order appropriate equipment from the medical equipment store.
- To plan and organise appropriate intervention choosing from a range of therapy models with the child, family and school as applicable. The intervention may be carried out by an OT Assistant and may take the form of individual or group work.
- To support schools in carrying out a childs OT program.
- To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
- To contribute specialist advice as part of the Code of practice for the Assessment of Special Educational Needs in line with educational policies and procedures.
- To contribute to the induction and training of students and new members of staff, both within and external to the Trust.
- To provide training to education staff and other professionals as required.
- Undertake any other duties as required within the sphere of competence and at the request of the Childrens OT team lead.

Qualification
Essential- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Evidence of a range of competencies for the job
Experience
Essential- Relevant experience/placements to the role
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team
Desirable- Previous experience of working a community setting
- Previous experience of working with children
Knowledge
Essential- Evidence of clinical knowledge/interest relevant to this post
- A baseline knowledge of the OT core skills and their impact on individuals
Desirable- Knowledge of child development
