We are looking for an exceptional Team Manager to lead our integrated Mental Health and Substance Use Service within a busy remand prison setting.

This is a unique and highly rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of individuals with complex mental health and substance use needs. As Team Manager, you will provide strong clinical and operational leadership to a skilled multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.Working within a fast-paced environment characterised by high patient turnover, diverse presentations and increasing clinical complexity, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, effective and responsive care across the stepped care model. You will provide visible leadership, operational oversight, and professional support.

This role offers the opportunity to influence service development, support staff growth and wellbeing, and contribute to improved outcomes for a vulnerable population, all while working within a dynamic and challenging healthcare environment.

Main duties of the job
Our integrated service provides comprehensive assessment, treatment and support for individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health and substance use needs. The service operates across the full stepped care model and comprises a diverse multidisciplinary workforce including:
  • Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMNs)
  • Psychiatry
  • Psychology
  • Healthcare Assistants (HCAs)
  • Recovery Workers
  • Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners
  • Substance Use Practitioners
  • Advanced clinical practitioner

Job responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and resilient registered professional who can thrive in a demanding but highly rewarding environment. Please view the JD and Person Specification attached for full details, in summary - As Team Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing effective leadership and management to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensuring safe, effective and recovery-focused service delivery across mental health and substance use pathways.
  • Managing performance, quality, workforce planning and service development.
  • Supporting staff wellbeing, professional development and retention.
  • Working collaboratively with prison colleagues, commissioners, healthcare partners and wider stakeholders.
  • Supporting the management of complex clinical presentations, risk and safeguarding concerns.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities and relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act.
  • Driving continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of patient care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Mental Health Practitioner Qualification
  • Relevant Degree or Post Graduate diploma/equivalent level of experience

Experience
Essential
  • Considerable experience of working in the mental health field
  • Experience of providing specialist interventions for those with mental health problems, counselling techniques, CBT, motivational interviewing
  • Demonstrable experience at Band 6/7 or equivalent
