An exciting opportunity has arisen at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) NHS Trust for an experienced and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join the Pharmacy Procurement team.

This role is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and cost-effective procurement and distribution of medicines across the Trust, ensuring compliance with MHRA guidance and Wholesale Dealer Authorisation requirements.

Working closely with the Lead for Procurement, you will oversee procurement operations, supplier and contract management, and stock control. You will act as a main contact for the wider department.

Main duties of the job

• To provide a comprehensive and efficient daily procurement service to the trust developing and updating services; following all legal and departmental practices including Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), MHRA Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Distributors, COSHH, Lifting and Handling Regulations and all Trust Policies and Procedures.
• To assist the Chief Technician and Pharmacy Business Manager with development of cost improvements to the department and trust.

Job responsibilities
Trust Responsibilities:

• To be part of the Pharmacy team and work to enable the objectives of the Pharmacy and the Trust to be achieved.
• To communicate effectively and promptly with all members of the pharmacy teams and, where necessary, clinical multidisciplinary teams (MDTs), to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of medicines management/optimisation and supply services to patients and colleagues across the local health system.

Professional Responsibilities:

• To act in a professional manner consistent with the GPhC code of conduct and as is required to ensure safe, effective and timely care for patients and appropriate support for colleagues across the health system, including communication of complex and sensitive information.
• To effectively manage the ordering of medications for the trust on a day-to-day basis following SOPs ensuring compliance to regional, national and local contracts for wards, departments and external customers of the Trust via the pharmacy computer system.

Education & Training:

• To train and appraise staff working in procurement and distribution as appropriate .
• To be responsible for the storage areas within the pharmacy departments.

Miscellaneous:

• To carry out other duties as requested by senior staff.
• To seek advice and instruction from more experienced or specialised staff when necessary.

Person Specification
Qualifications and knowledge
Essential

• Registered Pharmacy Technician supported by evidence of CPD in line with GPhC requirements
• BTEC / NVQ level 3 or equivalent
• Accredited Checking Technician, or demonstrate relevant competence within three months of starting in role
• Knowledge of procurement legislation and policies, acquired through basic qualification plus specialist training or experience
• Evidence of ability to plan and organise complex activities or programmes of work requiring planning and adjustment to meet changing needs
• Evidence of providing advice in relation to patient care including information on common drug dosage and use; advises patients and colleagues on issues relating to medication regimes and changes to prescribing, working in partnership with pharmacists
