Job summaryOur Therapy Department has an excellent post specialising in ortho trauma and frailty, which is available on a permanent basis. This post supports our quality improvement agenda to improve the service provision for older adults living with frailty, especially those patients who have a fracture. If you are an ambitious Occupational Therapist who wants to actively support this change agenda, then this role is for you.
This role is shared between the Inpatient Trauma & Orthopaedic service and the Acute Assessment and frailty team supporting older adults with frailty. A primary role of this post will be to upskill and develop the Trauma & Orthopaedic service in the management of older adults with frailty, across the whole MDT, and support to embed a process of frailty identification and Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGA) on the frailty and orthopedic wards.
Previous experience as a Band 6 or 5 Occupational Therapist is essential. An ability to demonstrate a proactive flexible approach and to be able to work well on own initiative is essential.

Main duties of the job- To provide advanced Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions. With a specific focus on frailty and frail patients post orthopaedic trauma.
- To be responsible for own case load, split between frailty and Trauma & Orthopaedics. Working without direct supervision but with daily senior support as required.
- To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and integrate working practices with community partners in order to facilitate timely discharge and admission avoidance.
- To train and develop staff and students.
- To undertake evidence based audit to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to Manager / Team Leader regarding changes to practice and/or service policies and protocols.
- To represent therapies as a visible, knowledgeable, confident, supportive and high performing professional group.
