Job summary
Gissing Ward is a 23-bedded unit caring for patients undergoing complex head and neck surgical procedures. The successful candidate will work closely with the Matron and nursing team to provide professional leadership, support safe and effective care delivery, and help maintain a positive environment where patients receive high-quality, compassionate care.

Main duties of the job
The Ward Manager will lead and work as part of the Ward team, providing professional leadership and management within the work environment. The post holder will be accountable and responsible for the standards of care provided within the ward/department and for leading, supporting and implementing innovative practice.

The post holder will provide direct patient care, demonstrating specialist knowledge and act as a resource and role model for the clinical team. To work in liaison with other Senior Nurses/Department Managers, Matron and the Associate Nurse Director to implement service plans.

Job responsibilities

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse on appropriate part of the NMC Register

Desirable
  • Management qualification or evidence of management development.

Experience
Essential
  • Extensive post registration experience including significant experience within relevant speciality at Band 6 or equivalent
  • Experience of managing/leading a team and co-ordinating workload

Skills
Essential
  • Highly developed persuasive, motivational, empathic and reassurance skills
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit/ patient review
