Research plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes and ensuring healthcare professionals remain at the forefront of evidence-based practice.
The post holder will be part of an established Research Team, coordinating a portfolio of NIHR and commercial research studies. They will support the delivery of high-quality research, ensuring studies are conducted in line with regulatory requirements, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Trust policies. Through this role, the post holder will contribute to advancing patient care and supporting the Trust's commitment to research excellence.
Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant may be an experienced Paediatric Research Nurse or a registered children's nurse seeking to develop a career in research. Full training and support will be provided.
Key responsibilities include supporting study set-up and delivery, identifying and recruiting eligible participants through clinical screening, collecting and entering research data, conducting study-related assessments and interviews, and providing ongoing support and monitoring for patients participating in research studies.
The postholder will be primarily based at Warrington Hospital; however, flexibility will be required to work across other Trust sites and attend regional meetings as necessary to meet service needs. This post is funded through the North West Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN).

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Registered General Nurse (RGN).
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Desirable- Postgraduate qualification in Nursing.
- Postgraduate qualification in Research or related subject.
ExperienceEssential- Previous experience of research or a demonstrable interest in clinical research.
- Clinical experience and competency in venepuncture.
- Ability to interpret clinical investigations.
- Clinical experience and competency in IV cannulation.
- Minimum 3 years post-registration experience
Desirable- Previous experience of commercial research.
- Current ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification or equivalent.
SkillsEssential- Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer-based data management systems.
- Knowledge of clinical trial principles, research governance, GCP, ethics, quality standards and patient confidentiality requirements.
- Understanding of the Clinical Research Nurse role and NHS Research & Development processes.
- Ability to accurately collect, manage, validate and report data
- Ability to maintain accurate, comprehensive and audit-ready documentation.
- Knowledge of information governance and relevant clinical/research information systems
Desirable- Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry partnerships and commercial research processes.
- Strong research administration and project coordination skills.
