Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Senior Clinical Research Nurse (Band 7) to join our dynamic and collaborative team at St George's University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

This pivotal role is key to coordinating and managing a multidisciplinary Paediatric Research Team, working closely with the Clinical Research Matron and the wider research network to oversee a diverse portfolio of clinical trials, which include adult and maternal studies.

As a senior member of the team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality research, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, and meeting both local and national research targets.

You will also haveline management responsibilities for the Clinical Research Delivery Team, supporting their development and ensuring effective day-to-day operations.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead and coordinate paediatric and adult/maternal clinical research activities within the Vaccine Institute (VI), Centre for Neonatal and Paediatric Infection (CNPI), andthe wider Trust.
  • Provide line management and professional support to the Clinical Research Delivery Team, including Research Nurses and Clinical Trial Coordinators.
  • Ensure all research is conducted in strict adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, with patient safety and well-being as the top priority.
  • Act as a clinical leader and expert practitioner, providing mentorship and support to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Operate with a high level of autonomy, making delegated clinical decisions and working closely with investigators and healthcare professionals.
  • Facilitate informed patient participation, ensuring research participants receive clear, comprehensive information while advocating for their needs.
  • Collaborate closely with Principal Investigators, clinicians, and research teams to maintain high standards of data integrity and patient care.
  • Contribute to ongoing COVID-19 research within the Vaccine Institute.
  • Support the development of new research opportunities and expansion into other paediatric specialties.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, with the willingness to support research across different clinical specialties as required.

Person Specification
Education & Quals
Essential
  • Registered Paediatric Nurse
  • Completed post graduate qualification in speciality or clinical research related field
  • Teaching & assessing qualification or equivalent relevant experience
  • Current GCP certificate

Desirable
  • Completed Master's degree in the speciality or related field or willing to work towards

Previous experience/ knowledge
Essential
  • Experience of managing a complex clinical research workload at Band 6 or above
  • Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships
  • Experience of collaborating with other agencies
  • Evidence of successfully working with and contributing to a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of developing others through CPD / PDR / clinical supervision
  • Experience of formal/ informal teaching of patients and staff
  • Experience and evidence of using highly developed motivational and negotiation skills to affect change.
  • Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
  • Working knowledge of legislation & guidelines relevant to clinical research
  • Experience of working as a patients advocate

Desirable
  • Experience of phlebotomy
  • Experience in Infectious Disease/ Surgery/ Rare diseases/ Gastro
  • Experience working in a community setting
  • Experience with public engagement/ outreach activitites

Skills

  • Ability to manage own & other's time, workload and caseload effectively
  • Computer literacy including e-mails, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint & databases utilised in clinical research
