Job summary
The post lies within the new mild-moderate eating disorder pathway which will serve all five boroughs within the North London Foundation Trust. Each post holder will be allocated to one of the five boroughs and sit within the core teams to provide psychological assessment, treatment, consultation and training to those with mild-moderate eating disorders.

Main duties of the job
The role will entail assessing and treating individuals with mild-moderate eating disorder symptoms, within and across core teams in one allocated borough. The post holder will work collaboratively with the core teams to identify and coordinate referrals into the pathway. They will screen and assess relevant individuals for the pathway in order to deliver evidence based treatments for eating disorders including CBT-ED and CBT-T. They will consult with the moderate-severe St Ann's Eating Disorder Service (SEADS) to discuss cases that may require a step-up in treatment or medical monitoring and liaise with the SAEDS for cases that need to be stepped down to the Eating Disorder Recovery hubs. They will be responsible for promotion of the pathway within their borough, including providing training and consultation within the core team and with other relevant services. The post holder will also help co-ordinate and maintain spaces for reflective practice, CPD and training where required.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will assess and deliver evidence-based treatments for mild-moderate eating disorders within their allocated core team, with support and leadership from the pathway lead. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new pathway to help treat a previously unserved population.

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
  • Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology (or BPS accredited equivalent), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS. AND HCPC registration. OR Post graduate Diploma in CBT BABCP accreditation.

Desirable
  • Eligibility for Chartered Psychologist status. Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology. Post qualification training relevant to eating disorders.

EXPERIENCE
Essential
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Awareness and/or experience of multi-cultural issues in the delivery of therapy. Evidence of working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams/agencies in an effective way advanced knowledge of risk assessment and management. Ability to contain, explore and formulate an understanding of high levels of distress both directly with patients and indirectly via supervision of other staff.

Desirable
  • Experience of delivering interventions in a group format and working in highly flexible ways. Experience of contributing to service development, evaluation and quality improvement initiatives. Experience of developing and maintaining working relationships with primary care and voluntary sector organisations. Experience of working with people with eating disorders.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Essential
  • An ability to assess, formulate and design best fit treatment plans for patients with experience and knowledge of a broad range of approaches to psychological treatment intervention. The capacity to hold in mind and value a range of treatment models. Skills in assessment, intervention and management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practised within the clinical fields of psychology. Ability to contain, explore and formulate an understanding of high levels of distress both directly with patients and indirectly via supervision of other staff.

Desirable
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Ability to set, monitor and evaluate standards for quality within the service. Ability to work effectively in crisis situations in order to maintain the safety of both staff and client.

OTHER
Essential
  • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.

Desirable
  • Personal experience of mental health problems. Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
