Job summary
The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) is expanding its clinical workforce within our Integrated Contact Centres (ICC).

The post provides an opportunity for motivated and experienced Nurse\Paramedics with a telephone triage experience background to take the next step in their career.

We are looking to recruit to our Middlebrook (Bolton) site. Flexibility and being able to participate in a self-preferencing rota that provides 24-hour cover will be required.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will use their experience and clinical knowledge to effectively navigate and maintain patient safety for all calls awaiting ambulance allocation; up to and beyond the point of ambulance arrival on scene or onward referral following a telephone triage.

Postholders will be responsible for maintaining high standards of care and safety within clinical delivery, actively supporting colleagues to ensure telephone triage is delivered to the highest standards and in a timely manner. The post holder will also provide clinical support to our dispatch, call handling and responding staff.

About us
North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Job responsibilities
The selection process will be:
Clinical Assessment: 26&27 August 26 at Estuary Point, this will be scenarios pertinent to the Clinical Navigator role.
Successful candidates will be invited for an interview at Estuary Point on the 01&02 September 26.

Person Specification
Skills / competencies
Essential
  • Politically aware and astute
  • Experienced in communicating effectively with both internal and external stakeholders using a wide variety of techniques (e.g. Presentation)
  • Innovative thinker and able to develop new solutions
  • Evidence of Leadership & Mentoring skills
  • Excellent written and analytical skills to provide reports to both Internal & External stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. GP's, CCG's, Acute services) to develop multidisciplinary working
  • Proven decision-making skills, including management of risk
  • Excellent IT literacy skills
  • Enthusiasm and drive to develop Urgent Care
  • Good organisational and planning skills to manage a range of activities
  • Development of evidence based clinical practice
  • Evidence of persuading Board, Executives and other Senior Managers of the respective merits of different options, innovation and potential opportunities with new practices
  • Ability to motivate, performance manage and develop teams and individuals
  • Demonstrable compassionate and inclusive leadership
  • Experience in the application of HR processes
  • Demonstrable experience of line management responsibilities

Qualification and knowledge
Essential
  • Educated to Degree level in relevant subject; or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in this area
  • Willing to work towards a Level 7 qualification/education
  • Evidence of relevant CPD activities
  • Nurse or Paramedic with current NMC or HCPC registration
  • Experience of a Specialist or Advanced Practitioner role and/or practice

Experience
Essential
  • Expert knowledge of Pre-Hospital and Urgent Care systems, acquired through substantive experience
  • Thorough knowledge of 111 and 999 primary and secondary triage processes within UK NHS ASTs
  • Experience in working collaboratively with Urgent Care colleagues across other NHS ASTs and other organisational bodies (e.g. AACE)
  • Proven knowledge and experience relating to the operation of Primary & Urgent Care Services
  • Good understanding and application of qualitative & quantitative research methods in practice
  • Experience of system changes, including IM&T system development to support practice
  • Knowledge of macro and micro contextual drivers and developments, particularly "Taking Healthcare to the Patient" and Urgent Care Strategy drivers
  • Understanding of the commissioning process leading to service development within the NHS
  • Experience of working within an NHS Ambulance Emergency Operations Centre or Contact Centre environment
