Job summary
We currently have a fixed term vacancy to cover maternity leave post available to offer a suitable candidate on our Haematology/Oncology inpatient ward. The post requires an enthusiastic, innovative Registered Nurse. Previous Oncology and Haematology experience is essential, full training will be given.

Our department is exciting, innovative and challenging. This is a great opportunity for you to join a highly skilled, dynamic, enthusiastic and friendly multidisciplinary team. As a junior member of the team you will be allocated a preceptor and proactively supported to develop to a senior staff nurse. You will develop your skills in Oncology and Haematology nursing and complete your chemotherapy training. We are committed to ongoing staff development and provide excellent educational opportunities in management and administration of systemic anticancer treatments. Main duties of the job
To take responsibility for the organisation and the day to day management of a team of patients.

To effectively lead and be responsible for the ward team and clinical care carried out in a designated area in the absence of and in conjunction with the Ward Manager & Deputy Sister/Deputy Charge Nurse.

To work in close liaison with the Ward Manager, Deputy Sister/Deputy Sister Charge Nurse, Matrons, Practice Development Team ( PDT) and the Multidisciplinary Team to provide the highest quality of assessment and evaluated care required to support each patient in their care pathway and improve the patient experience. Maintain clinical credibility and disseminate knowledge.

Job responsibilities
To take charge of the ward when the ward manager deems it is appropriate in line with achieving relevant objectives.

To act as a role model and take a lead role in the patients journey including patient flow and maintain clinical credibility.

To ensure practice is continually reviewed and developed, in liaison with the Ward Manager, Deputy Sister/Deputy Charge Nurse , ward team and the Practice Development.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Diploma or Degree level studies or equivalent knowledge

Desirable
  • Teaching/Mentorship Qualification

Experience
Essential
  • Knowledge of NMC codes
  • Demonstrative knowledge of clinical governance framework
  • Knowledge of health and safety in a working environment
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control and evidence of application

Desirable
  • Recent experience working at Band 5 within oncology and or haematology specialist setting with ability to demonstrate up-to-date evidence-based practice
  • Chemotherapy and cannulation experience
  • Experience of working in the NHS outpatient setting

Key Skills/Abilities
Essential
  • A team player able to work well with others and demonstrate commitment to team objectives and changes in practice
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy environment
  • Good Record keeping and written presentation skills
  • Ability to problem solve, anticipate and forward plan
  • Can effectively prioritise and co-ordinate own work and for all staff working on the unit
  • IT and standard keyboard skills

Desirable
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, able to deal with stressful and conflict situations demonstrating tact, diplomacy, persuasion as well as authority
