Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic registered children's nurse to work within the Nottingham Children's Epilepsy Team.

The successful candidate will join a team of other specialist nurses caring for children with epilepsy. You will be hospital based with a responsibility to see children in inpatient and outpatient settings and to liaise with families at home.

Job responsibilities

• To assist in the development and delivery of service provision which meets the needs of children and young people under specialist care with complex paediatric epilepsies diagnosis and achieves associated national guidance/agendas.
• To participate in projects/activities which enhance patient pathways, reduces length of stay and unnecessary admissions and attendances to the Emergency Department and improves patient and families experience.
• To develop oneself as a nurse specialist to that of evidence based practitioner and innovator who provides quality, safe patient care in line with national and international standards of excellence

Person Specification
Training & qualifications & experience
Essential

• Current 1st level NMC Registration - RSCN or RN (child qualified) ? First level health related degree or already working towards this ? Recognised Teaching/Assessing qualification ? Evidence of ongoing continual professional development within the speciality area
• Significant post registration experience /professional development/manageme Experience of teaching and assessing competency with a range of professionals and parent/carersnt experience at minimum Band 5 level in hospital ? Can demonstrate professional autonomy and effective decision making skills when managing a caseload of children and parent/carers with Chronic illness/Paediatric Epilepsy needs

Desirable

• Working as an Epilepsy Specialist Nurse or similar nurse led elements

Communication and Relationship skills
Essential

• Ability to work as a member of the Multidisciplinary Team: collaborating with, negotiating with and influencing the work of others across a range of disciplines and on own initiative ? Excellent oral and written communicator including report writing and presentational skills and conveying sensitive information to others in an empathetic manner ? Able to articulate, discuss /receive relevant clinical information to/from a multi-professional audience including highly complex information and implement plans for development ? Able to maintain accurate, timely written/electronic patient records and documents ? IT skills - ability to operate data systems and Microsoft Office skills

Desirable

• Demonstrate knowledge of current issues related to the NHS and specifically to Paediatric Epilepsies ? Able to critically analyse and evaluate audit/research findings and apply to clinical practice
