Job summary
Applications are invited for a post of a Senior Neonatal Fellow commencing December 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to consolidate practical procedures and clinical skills relevant to tertiary neonatal intensive care. These will include but not be limited to: airway management and intubation, peripheral arterial cannulation, umbilical catheterisation, intercostal drains, long-line insertion, cranial ultrasound and echocardiography.

There are numerous opportunities to gain experience in NICU and there may also be opportunities appropriate to the level of the fellow's experience in antenatal counselling of high risk pregnancies, and follow-up including neurodevelopmental clinics.

Neonatal transport
The transport service runs a parallel rota alongside the neonatal service and if the Fellow wishes, training opportunities as such can potentially be facilitated. The progression to independent transport practitioner would be supported by an extensive induction programme and subject to attainment of appropriate competencies for safe and effective neonatal transport. Training will be provided in neonatal transport and with all equipment used by the service.

About us
NICU: Neonatal Intensive Care is provided across two sites at QMC and City Campuses. QMC NICU comprising of 11 intensive care cots and 6 special care cots, provides tertiary level intensive care for neonates of all gestations and is a centre for surgical care of neonates including ENT and Neurosurgery. The City Hospital NICU has 12 intensive care and 12 special care cots. It provides tertiary level intensive care for neonates of all gestations. After completion of expansion, QMC campus would have 38 cots. The individuals in these posts will gain experience in the management of sick newborn infants receiving a full range of neonatal intensive care with training in mechanical ventilation including high frequency ventilation and use of nitric oxide; therapeutic hypothermia and postoperative care.

Training/Experience

  • MRCPCH
  • Tertiary Level neonatal experience at middle grade of at least 6 months
  • NLS Provider
  • Computing/IT skills
  • Neonatal clinical skills to work at a middle grade level in a tertiary neonatal unit including practical procedures

Desirable
  • Advanced skills in an area of special interest within neonatology
  • Neonatal transport experience/ training Advanced Resuscitation of Newborn and Infant provider
  • NLS Instructor

Teaching
Essential
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduate doctors
  • Experience of clinical simulation

Desirable
  • Completed teaching courses / train the trainer / GIC
  • Appraisal and assessment training and skills
