Job summaryWe currently have a cohort of 9x HET Speciality Trainees, 9x HET GPVTS Trainees, and 4x Junior Clinical Fellows - BCYP, who cover our acute roster to include the following areas:
- T2 Rainbow Ward
- Paediatric Assessment Unit with support to the Paediatric ED
- Ocean Day Unit Doctors List Clinic
- Sunrise Neonatal Unit

We encourage parents and children to be actively involved in the care provided. We aim to work in partnership with the family and the general practitioner to provide as much care as possible at home. We aim to provide fast and effective communication with families and general practitioners via the telephone, patient information sheets, and very rapid discharge summaries.
Main duties of the jobTo be an effective member of the team caring for babies requiring admission. The department works as a team, and you should never feel unsupported. There is always someone to ask. To take advantage of training opportunities provided by your post. There is a daily handover round at 8:30am in both our Rainbow & Neonatal seminar rooms. All scheduled resident doctors are to attend, inclusive of those on flexible and clinic shifts. All staff who worked the preceding night shift are permitted to leave after handover at 9:00am, or after teaching if required at 10:00am. On the neonatal unit, you will be participating in looking after babies in HDU cots, special care cots (SCBU), and those on the postnatal ward. You will also attend deliveries. We respect the individual racial, linguistic, religious, and cultural background of each child. All members of the department aim to work in a multi-disciplinary way.

Person SpecificationKnowledgeEssential- Holds full UK GMC registration and license to practice
- MBBS or equivalent
Desirable- NHS experience
- A Postgraduate qualification such as DCH, MRCPCH, DCCH, or equivalent.
- APLS.EPLS, PALS, NLS.
ExperienceEssential- Substantial experience working at a post foundation grade level within a medical setting
Desirable- Previous NHS experience
- Previous experience in an acute hospital setting
- Previous medical experience in a Paediatric setting
SkillsEssential- Able to prioritise clinical need
- Able to discuss treatment options with patients in a way they can understand
- Able to establish good working relations with patients, carers and multi-disciplinary colleagues
- Aware of own limitations, consults senior colleagues appropriately and knows when to ask for help
- Understands the need for and appreciates the role of audit in clinical practice
- Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk
