Job summary
The Perinatal Governance, Risk and Safety Coordinator will work within the multidisciplinary maternity and neonatal team to promote a culture of patient safety, quality improvement, learning and clinical excellence.

The post holder will coordinate and support the delivery of clinical governance, risk management, patient safety investigations, mortality review processes, quality assurance activities and national maternity safety programmes. The role will support compliance with the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), NHS Resolution Maternity Incentive Scheme (MIS), Saving Babies' Lives Care Bundle and other national quality and safety standards.

The post holder will lead the timely review, investigation and learning from incidents, complaints, claims, mortality reviews, audits and external investigations, ensuring identified improvements are implemented and monitored. The role will contribute to assurance processes, governance reporting, regulatory compliance and service improvement activities across maternity services.

Working collaboratively with clinical teams, service users, governance colleagues and external partners, the post holder will provide expert support and leadership in relation to patient safety, risk management and quality improvement.

The post holder will maintain clinical creditability through regular clinical practice and participation in operational support requirements including the maternity bleep holder and on-call rotas

Qualifications and Experience
Essential

• Registered Midwife with NMC with degree
• Significant post-registration clinical maternity experience.
• Experience of incident review and investigation.
• Experience of audit, quality improvement or service evaluation.

Desirable

• Postgraduate qualification
• Safety Incident Investigation or PSIRF training.
• Quality Improvement qualification.
• Leadership and national maternity safety programmes

Knowledge and Understanding
Essential

• Knowledge of clinical risk management principles.
• Understanding of PSIRF principles and systems-based approaches to learning
• Knowledge of NHS Resolution Maternity Incentive Scheme requirements.
• Knowledge of Saving Babies' Lives Care Bundle. Understanding of NHS governance and assurance frameworks.

Desirable

• Experience of PMRT processes.
• Experience of PSIRF implementation.

Skills, Abilities and Leadership
Essential

• Competent IT, data management and report-writing skills
• Ability to facilitate reflective learning, debriefing and shared learning sessions
• Ability to lead safety and quality improvement initiatives
