Job summaryWe are seeking an experienced and compassionate registered mental health nurse to join The Beeches as Ward Manager for a 12-month secondment. This Band 7 opportunity offers the chance to provide visible clinical and operational leadership within our specialist perinatal inpatient service, supporting safe, high-quality and person-centred care for mothers, babies and families.
The successful candidate will lead the multidisciplinary ward team, oversee staffing, quality, governance, performance and resources, and support continued compliance with CQC and Royal College accreditation standards. You will bring strong inpatient leadership experience, sound clinical judgement and a commitment to recovery, co-production and continuous improvement. This is an excellent development opportunity for a Band 6 nurse ready to progress or an experienced Band 7 seeking specialist perinatal leadership experience.
Main duties of the job- Provide visible clinical and operational leadership for The Beeches specialist perinatal inpatient service.
- Ensure safe, effective and person-centred care for mothers, babies and families across the 24-hour period.
- Lead and support the multidisciplinary team, including staffing, e-rostering, supervision, development and performance.
- Oversee clinical governance, risk, incidents, quality improvement, CQC compliance and CCQI accreditation.
- Manage ward activity, patient flow, resources and delegated pay and non-pay budgets.
- Work with NHS England, commissioners and partner services to meet contractual and performance requirements.
- Promote recovery, co-production and service-user and carer involvement in care and service development.

Job responsibilitiesThis Band 7 Ward Manager role provides clinical and operational leadership for The Beeches specialist perinatal inpatient service. The post holder is professionally accountable for ensuring safe, evidence-based and person-centred care for mothers, babies and families across the 24-hour period. Working with the multidisciplinary leadership team, they will maintain high standards of clinical practice, governance, workforce performance, service delivery and regulatory compliance.
- Provide visible clinical and operational leadership and maintain a strong clinical presence.
- Ensure safe staffing, effective patient flow and high-quality care across the 24-hour service.
- Lead, develop and manage the multidisciplinary team, including supervision, performance, attendance and training.
- Oversee clinical governance, risk, incidents, complaints, audit and continuous quality improvement.
- Maintain compliance with CQC, CCQI and Royal College perinatal accreditation standards.
- Manage ward resources, e-rostering and delegated pay and non-pay budgets.
- Monitor activity, quality and performance against NHS England commissioning requirements.
- Promote recovery, co-production and meaningful involvement of service users, carers and partners.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Be a registered healthcare professional with current registration with the NMC (RMN preferred) and hold a degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
ExperienceDesirable- Have experience of operational management including workforce planning, e-rostering, budget management, service performance and patient flow.
KnowledgeEssential- Demonstrate knowledge and experience of safeguarding, risk assessment and management, the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and relevant professional standards.
Desirable- Have experience of clinical governance, quality assurance, audit, incident investigation, complaint management and continuous quality improvement.
